Default BMO Bank & other Canadian banks info

It was almost impossible to add my Bmo bank to my paypal account since I did not have any checks. I even called customer support but they were no help but after gogleing I found how to add it to your paypal account. I did the following:

Follow these instructions on adding a Canadian Bank account.

#1. Bank name.

Very simple: Bank of Montreal

#2. Transit Number

Take your original transit number, and add this that the bottom.

say your tansit number is 1234, and you live in Western Quebec, so you take "1234" and you add a 1 to the end of the transit making it "12341".

add if your Branch numbers ending with:

0 are located in British Columbia
1 are located in Western Québec including Montreal and surrounding area
2 are located in Ontario including Toronto and surrounding area
3 are located in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland excluding Labrador
4 are located in New Brunswick
5 are located in Eastern Québec including Labrador
6 are located in Eastern Ontario including Ottawa and surrounding area
7 are located in Manitoba and North-Western Ontario
8 are located in Saskatchewan
9 are located in Alberta

#3 institution number

Your 3 Digit institution number:

* 001 Bank of Montreal
* 002 The Bank of Nova Scotia
* 003 Royal Bank of Canada
* 004 The Toronto-Dominion Bank (which is the legal name for the bank, although it operates as TD Canada Trust)
* 006 National Bank of Canada
* 010 Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (includes President's Choice Financial)
* 016 HSBC Canada
* 039 Laurentian Bank of Canada
* 117 Bank of Canada (Canadian central bank)
* 127 Canada Post (money orders)
* 219 ATB Financial
* 260 Citibank Canada
* 290 UBS Bank (Canada)
* 308 Bank of China (Canada)
* 326 President's Choice Financial(no longer assigned)
* 338 Canadian Tire Bank
* 340 ICICI Bank Canada
* 509 Canada Trust
* 540 Manulife Bank
* 614 ING Direct Canada
* 809 Credit Union Central of British Columbia
* 815 Caisses Desjardins du Québec
* 819 Caisses populaires Desjardins du Manitoba
* 828 Credit Union Central of Ontario
* 829 Caisses populaires Desjardins de l'Ontario
* 837 Meridian Credit Union (formerly Hepco)
* 839 Credit Union Heritage (Nova Scotia)
* 865 Caisses populaires Desjardins acadiennes
* 899 Alberta credit unions

#4 Account Number

I on the bank statement I got it showed the following:

Primary Checking Account
# 1234 5678-910

The last 7 digits are your account number.

I am just waiting on the paypal deposits to verify my account.

the bank does not give information over the phone.
if you need your bank info for paypal just go in person to your bank and ask for your account number, transit and all, because you need to receive a deposit.
very simple

I did this myself and yes you are right. They do not give it over the phone. I just waited for my bmo bill to come up and did it myself.

Since this thread is stickied, I suggest ALL CANADIANS to go open up an RBC US funding account in order to avoid paypal's 2% conversion fee. All my business is done in USD, and I am sick and tired of getting less money even though the Canadian dollar is lower than USD.

You'll still lose on the conversion through the bank if you need the money in CDN$ so its not a big deal.

All my business is done in USD, when I need to convert my money to CDN, I take it to a Chinese exchanger...

They give excellent rates from USD to CDN, sometimes they even give you it at par as they are in demand of USD.

They offer better rates then the bank when converting money, the banks usually take 3% at minimum but the chinese work at VERY slim margins...

There are many exchangers in my area but most of them are chinese for some reason, ahhhh...I love chinese people .

Default careful!!!!

works good but not for verification on paypal. when you verify on paypal canada and us FUNDS account in Canada it will reject it because it will try to put the funds on it in CAD and not US. and only USD are allowed to go in there. so that didn't work for this purpose/

I'm also having trouble adding my BMO account to Paypal because of this 4-digit transit number.

I tried following the directions that were posted here, but they don't seem to be working. I tried adding 3 (for Newfoundland) to the end of my transit number but it came back invalid. In fact, the only number that didn't come back invalid was 1. I don't know how long it takes those deposits to show up but it's been almost a day now so I don't think it worked.

Default BMO has 5 digits

Hi there
the BMO has a 5 digit transit number. not on your account though but on your cheques:
if it is on your account say 0591 it will appear on your cheque as 0591 8

that is the number you need. The transit numbers in Canada are always 5 digits!!!

Can anyone out there help with this scenario???

We live in Canada and hold a Par Crossing USD bank account with RBC. I recently received the two small deposits from Paypal into our USD account and was able to get our account successfully verified.

I thought I would try to send a small ACH transfer from our verified RBC USD bank account to our USD Paypal account and was told by Paypal that RBC would not send the funds.

So I am allowed to send funds from Paypal to RBC but not from RBC to Paypal. That makes absolutely no sense to me. Anyone have any suggestions??? I also have our business banker at RBC checking into it for me but I do not have much hope. Thanks

Scotty

Default help

Hmm i think i did everything right but i still get an error when trying to get verified for BMO. After i add the bank account I get this error:

"The account you entered would need additional review. Please link a different bank account.

If you would still like to use this bank account, you may fax us a copy of the bank statement with the two amounts PayPal deposited in your bank account shown and a copy of your driver's license or other photo I.D. You must use this form for your fax cover sheet and send the fax to (402) 537-5780."

Is this normal? Do I actually have to fax documents?

I have multiple accounts with BMP. No issues. Do not use Ally Bank with PayPal!

BMO works fine for me too. PC does too as long as you don't attract unnecessary attention to your account.
