Default Amazon vs Ebay

As of February 2016, which site is best to sell on?

In terms of restrictions placed, longevity of accounts, ease of creation, quantity of buyers, quality of buyers, etc.

What are your experiences?

Sales depend on niche

Ebay/paypal much easier and less chance of them trying to steal your money

It totally depends on what you are selling. Generally speaking, the profit margins are better on Amazon, although that is not true of every single item. But you also must be VERY PROFESSIONAL to last on Amazon.

eBay.

No deletion.

You can spend the eaning.

Fees are paid month later.

Good dispute system.

eBay and PayPal are separate inc.

Multiple selling accounts.

Instant payment for old accounts.

Lots of promotions for buying and selling.

On and on.

Hope there is third venue coming soon.

I find amazon more powerful these days if you do private label, very consistent sales everyday.

Always both. If you don't you are missing significant sales. Some items and categories sell hundreds or even thousands to one both ways.

I've been getting into amazon and I'm mad at myself for not doing so earlier, I thought my product wouldn't sell great here but I was completely wrong... but I feel A LOT more vulnerable if I screw up, because amazon REALLY doesn't mess around when it comes mistakes, and I doubt any private company has a more robust linking system to try and prevent multiply accounts/stealth... you have to really know your game.

After reading about amazon seller policies and enforcement, eB looks like a best friend in comparison.

The only thing I hate is, Amazon has restricted selling categories, and it will be so hard to get approved on those categories.

eBay is better.
AMAZON is much more risky than eBay.
eBay allow sellers to block buyers up to 5000, which is a powerful tool to protect sellers.
if you block 10 buyers everyday, you can block a buyer for 1 and a half years.
eBay scammers have to change member ID very often to cheat and eventually they forgot which ID they are using.

A 3rd party AMAZON seller is exposed to all scams, and is resonpsible for all kinds of foolish buyer's mistakes, such as wrong shipping address, purchasing wrong items, accidental order, these might eventually come down to AZ claims, which could nail you down.
AMAZON has a broken system, intentionally leave all kinds of loop holes for buyer to take advantage of them, 3rd party sellers always lose, and there are more and more buyers learn the tricks how to take advantage of it.
I have to sell my items on AMZON at higher prices to cover the cheats and scams. But still, with AMAZON's broken system, 3rd party sellers are vulnerable to suspension by all unreasonable negative feedbacks and AZ claims.
There is just no cure to sell on AMAZON. just no way to reduce risk (business cost) on AMAZON. And the risk is growing day by day as people learn the tricks.

By the way, my eBay selling triples AMAZON

Amazon is good for FBA - You have more a chance of the buy box, and if you can still turn a profit and be lower than your competitors at the same time via FBA then for me at the moment its amazon over ebay.

No packaging up parcels, don't have to deal with people lying about their 2 year old son bidding on an item they don't want. So for me at the moment, its FBA - but amazon are sneaky b*st*rds and no doubt ill have a surprise from them soon enough. But ill be enjoying this whilst it lasts (150 sales in 2 days - unbelievable )

I'd have to disagree with most of the people here, but it could be due being a high volume seller on Amazon. A lot of the other advice sounds like a bunch of, "and that's how they getcha!"

I do agree with people saying that ebay can be easier and have fewer risks involved; this might be an oversimplification but if you don't plan on selling much online, or you're not quitting your day job, ebay is fine (but you should still think about Amazon).

If 6 years ago the person who originally whispered "Amazon" into my ear had said "Ebay" instead, I'd likely be in a very different place right now.

To put it into a single sentence, which applies to most things in life: nothing worth having comes easy. You have to play the game - research, get smarter, deal with obstacles, etc. Most people aren't equipped to fight like that, but if YOU are, don't settle on what's easier or less risky.

Btw, I mostly agree with the guy that said both ^_^

Yes I got on years ago and slowly, for no reason whatsoever, I've been not seeing the sell your item button under various categories.
