Default When to use signature/delivery confirmation?

On eBay when a buyer receives an expensive item and the seller neglects to use signature confirmation, they can simply demand a refund and eBay will give it to them, even if they did in fact receive it. This is a common scam and I don't want it to happen to me here. Is this an issue at all on Amazon? Should I order signature confirmation if I ship expensive items?

This rule is also in effect for any and all PAYPAL sales.
Now that sounds familiar, I believe this is correct. Can anyone confirm this?

I've never used signature confirmation and I ship orders over $250 almost daily.

I can't say if there are any laws governing this type of thing. I doubt there are, but if so I'm breaking them all the time.

May I ask why you're asking?

At the end of the day you will have to decide if using signature confirmation is worth the extra cost for what you are shipping. I've never seen it as worth it because I've never had any major problems with Priority mail getting lost.

Because on eBay, when a buyer receives an expensive item and the seller neglects to use signature confirmation, they can simply demand a refund and eBay will give it to them, even if they lied. I want to protect myself if this is a problem here as well.

There are just as many (if not more) scammers on Amazon as on Ebay. And just like Ebay, using sig. conf. can help protect you against scammers. But it's not a sure fire way to ensure you won't get ripped off. Scammers will always find ways to get their money back.

You actually quoted an out of date set of figures on paypal.

Sign into paypal and check the new ones.

Since this is in amazon, you need to decide for yourself.

If you are newish to selling on amazon then read thro' their guidelines.

WARNING AMAZON LINK

https://payments.amazon.com/help/81727

I include this for you for this reason. You get to read the expectations of amazon yourself. I may give a reply a little different from what happens. You might could have problems then. And that is not fair for you.

Good Luck.

I sell items ranging from $150-$250 and when I first started selling I never required signature. However, after awhile I would get buyers who said the item was no delivered. What I had noticed is that nearly all of them were apartments. So now when I have an item on around $300 I require a signature.

I do this if a buyer says they never received an item that shows delivery and it works well to weed out some scammers. I reply to them and tell them that I will call the Post Office and have them open an investigation and the Postman will come out to talk to them. It's amazing how many email me back the next day to say they found it. LOL

Amazon has that nasty A-to-Z policy that allows buyers to get away with "murder" at times.

For ebay, I think the requirement for signature is now at $750 and over. Correct me if I wrong.

From my experience ebay/paypal are ok with delivery confirmation and i am actually shipping from Thailand...that means if USPS shows item as delivered in city, state, zip code i am covered and usually paypal will side with me...it has always been like this as far as i can remember
you would think amazon is like this but its not...amazon is rife with scammers who can claim anything ridiculous (received box but empty, USPS shows delivered but they say not delivered etc) and amazon will side with them in most cases
Amazons customer friendly policies has made the site a heaven for all kinds of scammers
I have the double or triple number of issues with amazons customers compared to ebay
The only better thing in amazon is that its super easy to remove feedback there

Bottomline...signature confirmation is a must in amazon but even that will not be enough to protect you

OP - put US regulations to one side, and turn on common sense.

I sell items that are cheap, I dont send them tracked. Every now and then I lose money, as someone turns around and says they didnt get it. When you compare the savings youve made, its worth it for me. On the other hand, I sell expensive items. I require signature, because I cant afford to risk it when the stakes are so high.

I used to do this with ebay same as you for cheap items...i was saving some money on postal fees but it costed me my TRS...and usually that means less sales...so since a few months i restarted using tracking again even for cheap items...i might be paying more on fees but i am pretty sure the TRS badge helps that bit to increase sales
I do not see how you can do this with amazon though...anything not tracked and thats a direct hit in your metrics for not valid tracking...
