Can you cash out Vanilla Visa Gift card?

I have a few $100 Vanilla Visa lying around and was wondering if they can be cashed out? Like buy a few items at walmart and ask for $80 cash back. Has anyone had success?

I don't think you can use it and get that much cash back. But they will work at gas stations for gas. That is what I do with most of my cards.

No you can get cash back with a prepaid credit card like that.

You can open up a merchant account and cash them out that way though.

That is what I am doing now, but between paypal fee, Vanilla fee, merchant account fee and money card account fee I losing like $16 per $100. I guess it is better than letting Paypal steal it. It would be nice to find a merchant that lets you roll the cash back into the purchase.

$16 to make an ebay/pp is not expensive.. It's the cost of doing business...

No, not $16 per account, but $16 for every $100 Vanilla Visa and so far have cashed out 20 of them, so $360 in fees.

yeah way it works is just like if i went in there and bought something instead of buying they just give me cash back but i have to spend $5 there but thats not to bad through it in the gas tank or something.

Huh? Are you using them to pay ebay fees or open accounts?

@dbk, wow - that`s a HUGE risk the merchant is taking to cash out credit cards. Why not use the vanillas to buy gift cards for groceries and shiz?

doughboykilla 12-27-2011 10:41 PM

yeah i use the cards to by more cards but if i ever have to do that opition i will go that rout :) cause i got $415 setting in 18 giftcards at all times.

You can use either Google Checkout and Obopay. They're great resources for that type of thing. However, make SURE that you don't abuse that method or they WILL ban you. Those aren't the type of resources that you want to burn bridges with since they are so convenient and helpful.
