Ok so Ive read Ebay Stealths book and have an idea to make things easier.
Ok so first thought was, when registering your PO box you can usually add additional names to the box as well. Why not use your info to register the box because you have to at almost every box rental store, but also add one or two extra names to the account. That way you can register your ebay/paypal under the fake name. And also, since you originally opened the PO box and youre the primary user, you can pickup any packages sent to it. The other thought was WAY too risky/illegal for the small traffic that would be happening at the DROP. So I withdrew it Last edited by Orion; 08-27-2008 at 08:39 PM. |

I dont really prefer UPS Stores as they have more security measures than any other box rental area.
How about local box rental areas? Has anyone done it? Im sure theyre much more relaxed about setting up. |

here's two ways to do it legally and privately with a PO box.
1) find a one person retail shop. Barbershops and shoe repair shops work great for this. Note their address. -Send them a piece of mail with your name but their address. -Stop by the day before the mail is delivered. Tell the guy that you just moved from XYZ city and you messed up your change of address forms. Say that you live at 1401 xyz st. instead of 4109 xyz st. and could the shop owner please hang on to any mail that comes for you until get it straightened out with the PO. Toke the guy a finn if you have too, Barbers are good for taking tips. - when you send the letter, you want to make sure the guy is not nosy. So place a finn or a ten in with the letter. - Stop by to pick up your letter the next day. If you get the letter unopened, you now have a anonnymous (sp) PO drop. 2.)Another tack I have used in the past. --- I will look to rent garage space from a residence. If you peruse the classifieds, every now & then you will find someone willing to rent out their garage for storage space rather cheaply. I go there with several months rent in hand and in addition to renting the space, I explain that my current Condo agreement does not allow for me to run a home a home based business. Because of that, I ask if I can also put up a locking mailbox so I don't have to risk getting Business mail at home in violation of my condo agreement. ----(and of course to save on mailbox fee, if he pursues that line of reasoning), With several months rent, cash in hand they almost always agree to the mailbox. --Example, the residence where I am renting the garage is 1409 XYZ st., I put a locking box with the number 1409 A XYZ st. next to owner's mail slot or box. Normally, the agreements to rent a garage are informal and done in cash, I have never had to fill out an application, it is anonymous(sp) for intents and purposes. Having the cash in hand for several months rent is the key though. |

It used to work years and years ago, but now with everyone worried about security and terrorism in the US, its way too risky. Your second option however seems like a very good idea. Ive browsed the local papers and have never noticed garage space for rent or something similiar. Ill take another look. Good stuff though Update: Instead of looking through the papers, look through your local craigslist for storage options. In my area there are quite a few garages for rent. Thanks! You can rent mailboxes that look like apartment numbers like mail boxes etc. They merely cost more than po boxes and if you have 80+ accounts that sell low quantity it's bad to buy one for each.

Target and AOL have been sued for blind users not being able to using their website http://tinyurl.com/hlynp -- will eBay be next for deaf users? |

The technique itself is not illegal. The person got arrested for what they were using the technique for, probably ID theft. I condemn ID theft.
It is not illegal to mess up on an address and then try to pick up the mail. It is illegal however to impersonate another person. In this context, for an ebay account, the person would use a variation of their name or a company name for which they had legal rights. It is not illegal to value your privacy and protect your valuable information like your true home address from intrusive companies such as ebay. |

A few other methods to get a drop w/o having to show ID.
-- Homeless shelters, homeless providers. A lot of these will have some mail p/u service and they not too picky about ID. -- If you live near the coast find out where the merchant marines drink, a lot of those places will hold mail. |

Someone who isnt me
Still though, youre talking about using it as an anon drop. Its not your real name and youre saying it is. Its considered deception. |
