Default Turning OFF picture Display in Gmail. Needed anymore?

Guys,

Gmail started 2014 came up with a new security that any images in the email will be host at Google Secure Content then will be displayed. Means that PP or eBay no longer can see your IP address from email IF you DON'T click on the link. All the IP addresses will come back to main Google location in CA.

Is it still necessarily to turn off images?

Yeah it is. It wasn't for the link clicking only.

It was so ebay/paypal can not release the beacons that are contained in the emails/images onto your computer to track you.

So but if you don't click on any link from them means they can NOT track you. Is that correct?

You need to turn off the images in your email as when you open your emails, it saves cookies onto the device/computer you are using which is what causes linking.

Search the forum on web beacons and know that they are very powerful/useful traps. I have some posts on this topic specifically.

The web beacon would contain information unique to your account.

OP, regardless of the new feature of Google, things can always change and I'd always err on the right side.

Remember, it's not worth it to risk your accounts for some little conveniences.

But to answer your question, the straight answer is :"Yes"

I read that also, that they are allowing images now because they are supposidely filtering them onto there site and discarding any beacons that will track u and impose on your privacy

But it takes literally 2 seconds and no need to worry about whether google is actually doing what they said or not , never rely on anyone when it comes to business, you need to try and be in control of all these iffy situations to make them certain

Yes, glad I found this post.. I accidentally clicked on an email that had an image on a dead account.. However, since the account is dead, and was in a PC User account I never use, they can not track anything.. Matter of fact, I just deleted the PC User account, which means its gone.. So, they did not get my IP and they can not track anything.. As each PC User account is essentially a different computer.. NOW, if you were in the SAME PC User account that you use for another Ebay/Paypal and clicked on it.. I would recommend doing a thorough clean sweep with one of those programs that truly deletes everything (and I mean everything of temp files).. Cleaning cache would obviously not be enough.. I am talking about one of those programs that literally deletes all traces of deleted files and everything.. You would have to do it immediately to avoid any issues.. OR, another solution would be to just straight delete the PC user account and create a new one right away.. That would also solve the problem.. No tracking if the PC user account is gone..
