Default Abandoning a Stealth

Here's a post that doesn't crop up often.

I may be abandoning a few stealths over time.

Primarily because I was not happy with the way they were setup and the personal details used.

I see them as "too similar" and they were created when my knowledge was sketchy.

My thoughts are closing the Bank Account associated with the PP Account as a must. Removing the Bank Account from PP as well.

Making sure all fees are paid and keeping an eye on it for a while in the unlikely case or any disputes/chargebacks.

Anything else I may have overlooked?

I stress this is a procedure I plan over the long term, just curious to hear if there is anything significant I am forgetting about this process.

I abandoned one of my steath accounts after the other one got 100 items a month limit. All I did really was stop using it and nothing seemed to happen. I just started using it again and it still is in good shape. I would say just keep it on good terms so in case you ever need to use it again you can.

If they are still working, why abandon them?

If the abandoned Paypal/eBay accounts are in good standing, you should also close them instead.

Stock up for a rainy day. eBay is unpredictable, so keep them under your pillow for a day when you are unable to sleep.

Hmm.. attached bank accounts? That's powerful. Why not update the information gracefully? Over time as not to raise any red flags. Have it how you want it and go forward with the accounts as backups? I personally wouldn't close a working eBay/PayPal account with attached bank account.

One the bank account is removed, you can never again use it with PayPal. So, I don't see the advantage in closing them.

PayPal NEVER actually deletes any information that you give them. You may have taken it off your account and it may not show up anywhere that you can see, but PayPal still has the record of it. It cannot be re-used and if a problem came up - such as with law enforcement - PayPal will give the information to them. I'm not sure if they would try to debit any outstanding fees once an account is removed. Maybe someone else can answer that.

Its nice to have the luxury of abandoning them, i think in USA you can have many more bank accounts than in other countries

Yes, it is true. There is no limit to the number of bank accounts you can have here. Although it is still advisable to keep the numbers reasonable.

Oh, the same thing CAN happen here, but it would be unusual. Still, many Americans have several bank accounts:
  • Personal Checking
  • Personal Savings
  • Business Checking
  • Business Savings
  • Christmas Club
  • Special Building Account

That would be a fairly normal list. And if a person owns more than 1 business, it would not be unusual to have separate accounts for each business to keep the funds separate. Or, a real estate investor may have separate accounts for each building he owns.

I work directly in this industry and can assure you, banks dont give a flying funk mate

I legitimately have 3 current accounts with the same bank for various reasons, along with another current account with another bank. Many people are very organised with their money and like to have different funds in different pots for easy tracking and maintenance.

The only call you would or could get is "we could earn you more interest if you did this with it" etc.

Thanks for the replies friends.

To clear a few things up.

I created all these accounts myself - none were bought.

All have had no issues to date over nearly 2 years.

Apart from one that I posted about recently.
The Paypal account was closed when I attempted to lift the receiving limit.
I strongly suspect my "creative" name variation flagged it.

They all have similar names - which now concerns me a little.

It is possible I am being a little paranoid.

But this is what EBay does to you nowadays.

No harm in keeping the accounts going IMO.

So long as the name is the only thing that is slightly similar I would not worry about it too much.

Just sounds like you got unlucky lifting the limits. It happens now and then

Thats not what i read on here, some people in UK have had phone calls and letters. I prefer to not be under the microscope
