How can Chinese sellers ship their items so cheap? I know that the China government has something with their postal service that allows people to export for cheap- exactly how much do they have to pay in comparison to those in the USA? It seems like they can ship to the USA for cheaper than we can!
I notice that a lot of business is done over eBay through China.

Actually it's our very own USPS who has setup some agreement with Ebay Chinese sellers to allow them to ship their stuff super cheap. So while they gauge us with higher prices, we are basically helping Chinese Sellers ship their goods super cheap.

Can we please stop beating up on Chinese sellers? The fact is that EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS FORUM, if they lived in a place where they could get the goods at a rock bottom price, and get the benefit of subsidized shipping, would do the EXACT SAME THING!
Chinese sellers are doing what they have to do to put food on their tables, just like us. Yes, it might seem unfair that they can sell cheaper than us, but that is just basic commerce. There are products easily available in the US that sell for a fortune in other countries. Just find them and sell there.
To beat up on Chinese sellers for taking advantage of what is available to them is completely pointless.

I'm actually interested in setting up business over there to capitalize on this. That's why I was asking. If you can't beat them, join them. (I'm still beating them keep in mind lol)

Well you probably need to buy big quantities ( at least 20" sea containers depending on sizes of items ) and have a good deal with Chinese manufacturers to beat small Chinese sellers who are selling on eBay and beating you with their cheap shipping prices, however to do that you would at least need to have some friends in China or go there yourself, so it's kind of lottery, you MAYBE will pick up and recover + give you nice profit but it's not easy and quick, otherwise you would be spending thousands for a cat in a bag.

Just to clarify once again- I am already beating my competitors. I am only interested in making more money. And I will relocate my business overseas if I find it to be more profitable.

I am always envy on this Chinese sellers, most of them can even offer you some small items for ~ 0.70 cents including shipping. It's like miracle.
In our country even for the smallest item would need to pay at least a few euros to ship even locally..

I believe this may be in part due to some trade agreements that China has with the U.S.
The U.S owes China a lot of money, so this may be one of the perks that China receives; the ability to offer subsided shipping.

A lot of the big shipping companies over there like hong kong post or singapore post or whatever let you send per weight no matter how many items you have so if you have 50 20 gram items then they charge you per kilo. They load it up on a big plane and then when it gets to the US it gets handed to usps.
usps have a agreement with these companies where they subsidize it, usps cost to deliver a piece of mail might be 1$ but they only charge 0.5$ so they lose a load of money on post from china. Then when people want to send to other countries they get a cheap deal themselves and charge you more. USPS loses money anyway so its actually the US subsidizing cheap mail more than china do lol

Don't forget that some sellers will take losses on the small items in order to gain rep and make good profit on the big items.

it is about 2500 - 3000 dollars to ship 40" container from China to Europe. Now count how many iPhone cases it may contain, and you will get the shipping cost |

They send goods on big containers on huge ships and then the tens and tens of thousands of items are split up (eventually individually) and distributed to all the individual customers.....the price to pay for the customer though is that they must wait a very very long time for their particular item to be included in the next 'big ship' leaving China to the country and then the time it takes that ship to get there and then the time for the item to get to the customer.
So all in all, a wait of anything up to a month for an item!

....Just for the record not all Chinese suppliers are saints, there are many many unscrupulous ones out there, that will take your money and you will never hear from then again, the substantial communications will end the day they receive your money!
So please do not let your guards down, and be smart always, they can be very convincing, it happened to my friend, although luckily he only sent a £1000, painful but survivable.
