What do you put on your listings to deter scammers? Obviously you can't stop all scammers but at least you can weed out the noobs.

Hopefully, someone responds. Going to sell something that's worth a decent amount and I'm getting nervous of scammers.

I just follow all the rules so I'm covered by seller protection. I don't put anything special in my listings.

their really isn't a perfect way to determine who your selling to is going to scam you or not. 1 good way is to make your listings as auctions and "baby" the auction by deciding who to allow bid on your item by looking at their feedback etc... but you dont want to waste time doing that. its not 100% sure that every sale is going to be successful. all you can do is sell a good product at a good price Its business you win some you lose some. on the other hand you have to make sure what your selling it not high risk be ready to loose some of your products/sales.
Another good way is to make all your listing Buy it Now. thats what i do, and theirs still times i get idiot customers

On risky items I've tried bluntly adding clauses like "If you intend to buy this item and abuse ebay's return policy or think you're going to be able to send back an empty box for a refund, it won't work anymore as ebay has updated their seller protection policy to prevent this" and it helped a lot. Veteran scammers know better, but it must scare off the noob scammers as I've gotten far less claims since I started adding things like that.

I've actually discovered a way to manipulate the return system to work one over on the veteran scammers with a worst case scenario of losing just the cost of shipping and a best case of getting your item back for just the cost of shipping, and so far it's had a 100% success rate. Since then, I haven't really worried much about getting scammed.

Don't sell anything on EB that you can't afford to lose.

There's no such thing as seller protection, and you always risk losing both your item and your money.

Frankly, which do you think a scammer would rather steal, something worth $10 or something worth $1000?

You would imagine the answer to be $1000 but this doesn't hold up in reality. Most of my sales are under £12 and in order to make any profit I do not send by recorded (signed for) post.....this can cost £3.90.....leaving no profit. scammers know this before they buy and they just put a request into ebay and say the package didn't arrive.
I can't prove it and I don't want bad feedback so I have to refund them....usually immediately.
It's like someone else here said...you need to look at the bigger picture and be sure to be a power seller with few bad feedbacks....otherwise there is no point

Would love to hear more about this. There seems to be a growing number of scammers on eBay and I tend to think it is because eBay generally sides with the buyer in about 99.99999% of the cases.

I would put the item in the box in front of the clerk insure it thru the post office so if he claims didnt get it or you sent a brick you can go to the po and be like wtf heres this guys address and you witnessed me putting item in the box . thats y it helps to b buddies with the mail clerks ... I only do this for ones i truly worry about ... I would think it wud be considered fraud, the post office would take serious if they new someone was trying to scam ppl by ⊗⊗⊗⊗ claims against the PO hence the insurance you buy its only a couple bucks.. Just my thoughts on it tho ..

Thats easy for me.

For higher end items, I request their information via the ebay system and then give them a call with my intentions to prevent any headaches.

You'd be surprised how much this freaks scammers out when you call them. If I cannot contact them to verify the purchase, I cancel the order.

The last time I had to do it, I sent them this lovely message:
"Oh, you got an empty box? OK. In order to protect both you and I, I need to file a police report with your ebay info so we can backtrack what happened."

Love it when things magically 'popup' after that.

A pic in the listing of Chuck Norris sending a parcel worked for me in the past.
