Question about phone verification

I registered a account with a fax number. Oooppss. Today Ebay called and wanted to verify that number. I was given a choice to add my cell phone number. There computer called me 2 minutes later- gave me the code numbers - and the account was back again. Can they suspend you for registering with an invalid telephone number? Is there computer starting to look into my account now with this stupid phone verification thing?

Whenever i register a new account and don;t have a virtual phone # set up yet i simply enter any random number. Then, after waiting about a week or so i proceed to verify my ebay account through a forwarded number, i simply change the number in ebay then and it calls me right away after.
After that, cancel my 'trial' for the forwarded number, and carry on with my ebay account, fully verified
