No it will not get you flagged, people move. Therefore when you move your ip is in a different location.

Just be careful changing the password right away. When you update your address, phone, email, etc, be sure NOT to change your password to any of your old passwords. Lost an account this way in the past.

You don't change your address, name, etc. That would defiantly raise flags if you changed all of your info. The only thing you would change is your password and security question.

Ok, then tell me this.

I bought an account that was setup on NY. I live in KS. Won't eBay suspend my account for using an out-of-area IP? I could be wrong, but I believe the IP range must be within 50-100 miles of your registered address.

Please let me know if I'm wrong, for this is what I have been told by a former eBay employee.

I have registered accounts for all over the U.S, thousands of miles from my ip and no problems doing it. If you're going to change other info, then your security question and password, I'd do it very slowly and take the risk of the account being flagged.

That's good to know. I've been creating all my accounts in my local area, and am running out of addresses.

Thanks,

ebay will not worry too much about that. There are ISP all over the USA & here in Australia that can sometimes give a location miles away from the real location. But if the ebay account is created correctly and operating
without raising flags, then there are usually no problems. nb, 'usually'.

yeah when I log in my accounts from tethering my cell phone I get ips from CA, TX, AR, NC, etc. I'll log into the same account with a CA ip then log in 10 mins later on an ip from the east coast. Haven't had a problem yet. but with the type of connection I'm using I'm sure they are aware the drastic changes are not intentional.

Default lp that doesn't match registered address

After having a bunch of my Stealth eBay accounts suspended because they were linked to my original eBay account - I took a month off Selling and re-read the Stealth guide and slowly started setting up some new accounts. I have some accounts registered in my metro area, but I live in a fairly small metro with no major cities within 500 miles - so I have a few accounts with registered addresses in other states. I made sure that each account has a (call forwarded) phone number that matches the address - but my IP is from a DSL modem that I use exclusively for eBay because you can change the IP within a matter of a minute or two. The problem is, it shows my real location which is a fair distance from some of the addresses that I used to register some of my accounts. What is the risk here? I think that eBay is kind of got me in their sites because they were shooting down every account I set up. I have had to tighten up everything and I figured that any new account set up in my metro would be flagged. I also sell some authentic HIGH RISK merchandise - which I am going to take a break from until maybe Fall - but I am pretty sure that will tip them off too. Still, I have to move this merchandise because I have about $10,000.00 invested in it. If I hide my IP won't that raise more flags than having an IP 1000 miles from the registered address or am I just screwed?

I answered your question in the other thread you asked the same thing. Do not try to hide your ip, that's a good way to loose the account. You shouldn't have any problem selling on account registered somewhere different then the ip is. Think about it, you could be on vacation, ebay doesn't know.

I have another account I use registered 5 states away and it has been up and running for 5 months with no problems. Also, I have been actively selling on it and 2 others accounts. So, I am not sure if the IP location is that big of a problem. I think it would be different if it was your original suspended IP.

Default IP is new every time I log in or change accounts

I use an AT&T DSL modem exclusively for eBay stuff and I can reset the IP by unplugging it for about 1 minute. I also have a Road Runner Wireless Internet set up at my house and that takes about 2 days of being unplugged to re-set the IP - but I have done that twice since I was suspended so even if I made the mistake of using the RR IP - it wouldn't match up with a suspended eBay account. Thanks for the input. I really need to get some Seller accounts set up and start selling odd things around the house until I feel safe to list my real inventory. I think that the inventory I am selling has been tipping them off - but I have a ton of money invested in it and I need to sell it so I am going to start real slow. I may wait until Fall before I list my items that are on the extra HOT LIST for eBay. I have taken a month off from selling so that I can re-read the Stealth book and tighten everything up with my new accounts. Wish me luck.

I would only use a VPN if it's your only option. If you can't change your ip at home, then I'd either get dial up or use a VPN. I really wouldn't recommend using a VPN, I have lost an account because of it and so have a few others.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, an example is BlackLogic.com

I have AT&T complete package~ TV ~ telephone ~ DSL. The problem is when I pull the plug in the back of the box the TV goes out! Everything stops! Perhaps everything is looped together?
AT&T home page reads it is dynamic IP's Get a different IP each time. I am thinking there is a gateway IP also to this bundle?

Claire V,

Something tells me you might be unplugging the wrong box. I might be wrong. But I have never seen a modem being unplugged cause a TV to turn off. If your tech plugged the TV power cord into the switched outlet behind the TV descrambler, pulling the cord to the descrambler would cause the TV to turn off. The descrambler is for TV signal, not internet.

I did a Google search and find no information about a combined box that does TV and PC internet both. Asked a couple cable techs I used to work with and a buddy that is a current satellite contractor. They've never heard of it either.

Has this not been asked in another thread? What is the point of the same questions in two threads? The answers will get mixed and confusing.
Keep the discussion to this thread, thanks.

eBay's computers wouldn't link you, but if they review your account *manually* for whatever reason and you're selling the same things/descriptions, pictures are identical/etc.. then they MIGHT link you up that way. As long as you take it slow and follow the Stealth Guide it shouldn't be an issue at all though.

Fatty, I also have AT&T DSL and ipconfig/ relase does not change my ip. I change my ip through my router by changing the MAC. Unplugging the modem also works, like Brendaleigh does.

I always thought that if you had an IP address in one state and created an account in another state that was a death knell...or is it?
Is it better to set up in your actual state, let it sit a while and then change the address to another state?

For att dsl, you can change the ip, and there is a tutorial on here for doing so. if you have the all-in-one residential gateway used for att uverse, you can not change it. if I'm wrong, please do tell. i loveed their tv service, but need the ability to change the ip freely sa you do. I've worked at att, know people at att, and have talked to a half dozen att techs, all say the system is designed to lock down the ip address because the tv runs off the ip address. if you change the ip address, you lose tv connection, and have to call in to have it reset.

You can argue all you want, but changing the ip on that box is a lost cause.

ipconfig /release only releases the IP of the device your PC is directly wired to. If your PC is connected to the modem, it gets a new internet IP. If your PC is connected to your router, you get the same LAN IP that the router already remembers.

If you intend to use VPN to access ebay and Paypal, talk yourself out of it. Bad idea.
