Default PayPal $1.2k fund frozen for 180 days. What to do?

So PayPal closed my account. I have around $1200 in the account, it all came from one transaction. The buyer didn't have any issues with the purchase.

The $1200 is too much to just wait 6 month and get it. What are my options? Is there a way I can take out the money from the account (There's an option to refund my buyer and ask him to send the money, but I don't trust him).

It is exactly like you say, the best option is refund the buyer and then ask him to send you in other way or to another paypal account, but you don't trust him, therfore you must wait 180 days.

there are 3 options for you:
1. Wait
2. Refund him, then ask him to send to another account.
3. Buy the Paypal company, become CEO and you can get your money out right away.

1,200 is not that much. I know lots of people have much more than that btw

If you dont trust the buyer than your better off just waiting till they release the funds, sometimes you get lucky and they let you withdraw earlier like 90 days

Don't send the money back if all is ok - wait 180 days.

1) ask buyer to send money to another account, but he can easily trick you
2) just abandon the account without sending them anything, and they will give you the money after 180 days.

If there's no issues after 90 days you can try and call PayPal and see if they are willing to release the funds BUT there is no guarantee of this.

Google "How to withdraw funds from limited PayPal"...There are many email templates from people who have gotten the funds out as early as 48hours after limitation. Whether it'll still work or not is the question but try!

It is only up to the rep, who will evaluate the email from the suspended account owner. In most cases, they WILL hold up to 180 days, sometimes they may release in 45 or 90 days, but it is just a luck, nothing more.

Are you saying we are all idiots in aspkin?
If so, you do realize you are also on aspkin and therefore also assuming the roll of an idiot with the rest of us?

you're in a sticky situation.
I wouldn't trust the buyer with $1200 unless I know him personally so your only option is to wait 6 months

Lol in many cases it true. It happens to all of us. In 2007 I got limited with $20k in my PayPal account. Back then you could get an ok return on the money market so I left it all in and was young and dumb. Had to wait 6 months to get it out. I was only 19 at the time so it definitely hurt. Personally my advice to OP is cut your losses move on and when 180 days pass you will get your money.

is the account new? usually paypal holds payments for new account holder regardless if ebay purchase. They also limit account, if suspicious activity or high amount received. You best option is to refund the buyer, and have him pay if smaller amount over the next few days, if he is willing to do that. Sometimes, calling the Customer Support helps too.

And what if the buyer doesn't comply....?

Default Re: PayPal $1.2k fund frozen for 180 days. What to do?

Try sending this email. Make sure you adjust some dates throughout the message. It may help you get the funds earlier (45 days is the earliest)

I am respectfully requesting that the hold on my funds/account be lifted. I am not necessarily requesting that my account be re-opened or allowed to continue to use the PayPal service, as I have already taken my business to your largest competitor and I am no longer in need of PayPal’s services.

I have previously requested a review/appeal of my case which was denied. Although I still disagree with the decision to deny my appeal I will abide by it – however because I feel that holding my funds for 180 days for a non-fraudulent violation of PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy is excessive, and perhaps a punitive abuse of power, I will be filing complaints with the following agencies on Thursday morning, April 30, 2015 if I am not satisfied with PayPal’s response to this request to release my funds:

(agencies in the states that I reside or have a business presence in)

The California Office of the Attorney General

Consumer Complaint Against A Business/Company | State of California - Department of Justice - Kamala D. Harris Attorney General

The Washington State Office of the Attorney General

https://fortress.wa.gov/atg/formhand...laintForm.aspx

The Florida Office of the Attorney General

Florida Attorney General - Citizen Services Contact Form

The Arizona Office of the Attorney General

Florida Attorney General - Citizen Services Contact Form

Additionally:
The United States Federal Reserve

What do I need to know before I file a complaint? | Federal Reserve Consumer Help

(I understand that PayPal does not operate as a “bank” which is precisely why they may be interested in such complaints)

The Better Business Bureau:

https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/complaintlink.aspx

All complaints will be filed “online” Thursday morning April 30, 2015 and written copies will also be sent via certified postal mail.

I understand PayPal’s need for holding funds for credit card chargeback purposes, however a review of my account history for the last year will reveal a very low chargeback rate as well as a very high customer-satisfaction rate. I feel that any reasonable person would conclude that holding my entire balance for 180 days is excessive and my be viewed by some as punitive or as already stated, an unnecessary abuse of power and perhaps even contrary to the laws of some states. That being said I have no problem with, and agree to leaving a balance of $100 for credit card chargeback purposes for the duration of the 180 days. I feel that this is a fair resolution while still leaving PayPal with the means to charge back any future credit card disputes to my account.

I also would like to continue doing business with PayPal if possible if the limitation team reconsiders my appeal. The documents and information provided was COMPLETELY valid and was provided at the best and fastest way possible.

Please be aware that replying with the standard “this is part of the terms of service that you agreed to” will not satisfy my request, or deter me from filing my complaints with the agencies listed above on the morning of Thursday April 30, 2015. It will be up to those agencies to determine if PayPal is operating within the law, abusing power, etc. I am simply seeking a resolution that is fair and in the best interest of both parties.

Thank you for your time again in looking into this matter.
