Bank requested id to purchase gift card
They wanted either a debit card, SNN, or driver's license. They said they don't associate any of this info with the card itself - they said it was to verify that I was an account holder with them, and if so, they wouldn't charge me the usual fee associated with purchasing a gift card (they said the "free gift card" is a service for account members only). Note: this is TD bank, and they never charge me for the gift card except for the money I load onto it.
What's weird is, I've been in there before, and they've never asked for me my ID or anything . But I'm a regular and this guy is new, so it could just be he wanted to check I was really an account holder?
I coulda sworn he said something about "it's how we route it" but at that point I got lost in the bank mumbo jumbo talk.
Thoughts? Is the gift card I bought basically bunk? Or is it still safe to use
