Consider Coventry building society I have 4 current accounts with them.
They are not as sophisticated as the big banks but work fine for me.

Just had a letter a few days ago telling me it wasn't in their t&c's etc.

Just a little update on this.....

I phoned the number on the letter, as they wanted an explanation to the situation. I thought it would be them just telling me accounts were being closed.

However thought I would try a blag, said the different names were because I set up different ebay/pp's for each product line I sell.....but I AM the person who the money goes to, and am not operating accounts on others behalf.

Lo and behold the operator says that it's fine, she will just put a note on the screen, no problem.

SO it SEEMS the official company line is they don't allow it. However if you call up when asked and can blag well, then they will mark it down as OK. I do feel however that it is COMPLETELY down to the luck of the draw as to what CSA operator you get to the outcome of your call. I waited until very late in the day on the eve of a double bank holiday weekend before calling to try and use as much in my favour as I could and make the most of the 'feel good factor'.

So, not sure if I can recommend Coventry BS, the CSA's seem nice enough. I would feel realllllllllyyyyy nervous after this using these accounts to shift decent money. What I will do is slowly build up a balance to keep in them so it at least appears I am using them partly as a 'savings' account.

So the moral to this story is? .....well I guess you roll the dice and take your chances this one. I just wanted to put some info out so people are better informed than I was before I opened a fistful of accounts with them so they can make a more informed choice.

Yes, I am impressed your 4 Current Accounts from the Coventry are not closed.

......but then, they don't do Current Accounts so maybe that is why.

Was no going to reply. Howeverm Halifax took 10K and after 2 mths refunded. Off the record the sub-manager informed me that, though they should not act on PayPal, PalPal told Halifax to lock the account. This was against the DP Act and Halifax knew it and released but back room chat is accepted by Halifax and you need to stay clear of these thieves.
I had to threaten them with The BO and FO for them to relent.

Take them to the FO standard compensation is about £75 to start.

in fact ring the FO they raise the complaint to Halifax who have i think 30 days to give a final answer which usually includes we are sorry here is £75. If after their final answer you are still not happy ask the FO to investigate. That investigation will cost Halifax £550 whatever the outcome and nothing to you. If The FO find in your favour they will instruct Halifax to pay you compensation.

I took Halifax to FO for a car insurance claim twice. They sent me £75 for both complaints one at the beginning and one at the end. The insurance premium was only £85 after cashback.

You have nothing to lose an its only a phone call to the FO.

Look on the FO website for previous findings against Halifax and see what they had to pay out and why they had to pay it

Would it be possible to open any of these accounts if I'm a UK citizen living abroad? I see Santander bank requires you to post identification documents by post and then they send your account details to you by post. This is not possible for me as I'm living abroad. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your intellectual input, although I have no idea why you are quoting someone else when you were not part of the converstation.

Maybe you miss Callidus? He doesn't seem as active since he had a rush of negatives on the accounts he sold? Which would back up my thoughts on certain account sellers motives to be on here in the first place, and it isn't to help people. Don't worry though I am sure if you looked hard enough you may find he is still on the forum selling accounts under a different name now.

It will be hard.....make that near impossible.......if eventually you ever get tagged by CIFAS.

Yes CIFAS is only handy when the banks collapse they can't take your money because it's in a biscuit tin under the bed
