They work well although they do sometimes have delays in getting or sending funds into and out of the account

which savers would you recommend over the post office ones?

do i need to have a current/basic account with the bank to open savers or can they be opened by themselves without the need for a bank account?

You can open the PO savings account without a current account

I would stick to instant access savings accounts
