Default best hosting and domain (cost and performance) reccomendation?

Doing stealth websites and wondering any reccomendations where cost is low (domains and hosting packages?) or separate is fine. I say this because if stealth site goes down then it won't be too much of a loss. My master website I do best hosting plan and domain etc..

Aspkin gives solid recommendations - when you say "low", what's your monthly budget?

Well i run 2 websites right now and this is non stealth. I wanna run 3 stealth shops and I would say 10 to 15 a month for both domain and hosting. I know domain is just yearly thing (I'm paying 14.99 for domain) if there is cheaper ones (I'm sure of) but just been used to using hover. I also used afternic godaddy bluehost and i think these are great but more on pricier side. Is 10 to 15 a month seems like it's not cheap lol. Maybe there is lower ones.

And let say a site is doing good is it advised to upgrade to more faster and stable host? Not sure if more expensive host is any different other then additional perks etc. But never really use them as much.

Long as you just get a site running that does transactions and not down I think that will do right?

From a "stealth" perspective, Godaddy is pretty cool. You can pay for/renew your domain and hosting with stealth PP balances and if you're paying with PP you can put totally made up WHOIS info. Basic hosting package + domain is usually about $50/yr.

Thank you. Pretty cool sounds like pretty cool deal! Godaddy is reliable and 5o a year is great deal. Can I pay with a prepaid Visa card? And for tax records the prepaid Visa card I'm sure I can login the card info and take snapshot of receipt or even email receipt will work right?

I was concerned about the whois also because things can get traced back.

Let say stealth website goes down. Meaning I'm not allowed to advertise from certain sites .. what can I do with a site sitting there not generating? Just leave it and start new 50$ site? Feel like mafia where they just burn the place down and start new. (Without collecting insurance).

I been doing own wite and seems more freedom then doing like eBay Stealth.(although I havent done eBay Stealth as too many things can go wrong (for me at least)..

If one domain goes down, you can change your DNS settings so your hosting server points to a different domain. That way you'd only have to spend the $5 or so on a new domain and you could keep using the same hosting plan.

About paying with a prepaid card - I've never tried but they have several acceptable payment methods so I don't see why that wouldn't work. And yes, it's correct that you'd be able to print a statement for your prepaid card showing the domain/hosting purchase.

Yeah I was thinking of the pointing to different domain via nameserver etc.. Wondering though will someone like adwords, bing or fb see that I'm using the same server and link me to my own domain? Or is it domain they just see and typing the whois will show someone different due to new domain register?

Where is the 5$ domain? I been paying 14.95 a year which isn't bad but considering domain is just name I can go cheap and shouldn't be problem. (not sure why some charge high for domain)..

also, I remember I didn't sign up for whois privacy one time and when I checked domain it showed the host and not my name. Is this false and someone like google can see more in depth info if I don't do the whois privacy?

I'm not sure about that, but I don't think just pointing to a new domain would be sufficient for stealting big companies like you mentioned.

The last couple of domains I bought were the new TLD's and they were super cheap, like $1-$3/each (.xyz, .club, .site). I guess you'd have to pay a little more for .com's.

Before whois privacy was a big thing I used to always see the domain owner. I guess that's not standard practice anymore. I just did a whois on one of my sites where I used a stealth name instead of whois privacy, and it's just showing a godaddy contact URL for the registrant info. If you haven't paid for privacy I assume Google or whoever would be able to go to that URL and request the registrant info from Godaddy.

I used to own and run web hosting companies back in the day.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by a "stealth website".

If you mean "private" keep in mind that's fine so long as you comply with the web hosts Terms of Service, and otherwise don't host anything illegal in the jurisdiction were the server is located.

One thing I wanted to mention is be careful with a company like GoDaddy. They are a bit sensitive to complaints and will act by suspending your domain or site even with a single complaint.

Several years we had an unfortunate incident whereby GoDaddy suspended the main domain name of our company website which took down hundreds of domains managed by us. These were customer domains which used our DNS name servers.

GoDaddy received a single spam complaint about one of our customers who had a server in our colo center, on a machine we didn't even have access to. Since our domain was with GD, they suspended it since we provided network service for that customer. As someone who has worked in this industry a long time, this company is quick to take action if they don't like what you are doing.

There is more to staying private than using the registrars WHOIS privacy setting. I would be more mindful of running afoul of your web hosts (or domain registrars) ToS/AUP. This is especially true if you are hosting controversial content, adult material, or something that may be illegal in some countries.
