can you go on a policy with another 1 or 2 other people that have history? I hear that is how you get premiums down for new young drivers for example.

Car coverage in the EU and UK is far more flexible than in the USA.

For example, I spend a great deal of my time overseas, so naturally I don't drive my car which I keep in the USA very often. No insurance company in the USA will write a temporary policy, or one less than six month. I one called at least 20 or 25 companies, including all the majors (Progresssive, Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, GEICO, etc) and they all told me the same thing. They DO NOT write any policies for less than six months.

In the EU, Australia, etc you can easily get cover for a little as one day, a week, month, or however long you like. Regulations in the USA make that impossible.

Also in a few states some carriers are experimenting with "pay as you go" insurance whereby they plug a little gizmo into your vehicles OBD port and track your movements, and how much you drive. You are usually billed by the mile, and/or the amount of time you have the vehicle in use.

Some people might find having their insurance carrier know everything they are doing a bit weird, or unsettling, but if it meant saving money on your policy to give up that "privacy" would you do it? You'd be surprised how many people would actually go for that.

insurance is all about sharing of risk, the more people take out insurance, the lower the premium, this is not the case here

For his BMW M3 he pays about 3000$ a year and has no discount at Allstate company. In comparison, I live in UK and use Traders Insurance, and I have BMW M3 too (simply we are passioned about BMW) and I pay only 1400 a year and have dicounts each year, furthermore, I have a discount at my car repair in amount of 40%
Nice experience

something is cheaper in UK,some cheaper in USA.
Do UK drivers drive as much as US driver?
I still remember our parents drive 10k miles in a year ,now some drive 10k miles in 3 months!
US car owners bought Volvo thinking it is almost maintenance free, when they complain to the car dealer why so much maintenance, the dealer said in Sweden, they do a good job maintaining their car, and it is more than just oil change !
We have folks down here who drive Mercedes for years without changing oil !!!!
