This is happening to a lot of people right now.

Where did your gift cards come from?

If you used your real name and credit card, with a lot of persistence you should be able to get your account back. As long as none of the Gift cards you used were reported stolen.

Here is what will happen :

You call buyer support and ask for a supervisor. They will sound like they want to help. They will fill out a form to communicate with an Account Specialist, since they no longer can chat with them. You will be told an Account Specialist will call or email you.

75% Chance they won't email you.

If they do email you and request information about the gift cards to be sent by fax. When you provide it they won't do anything.

Then you call back and repeat the above process, over and over.

I would say if you are persistent there is a 33% chance you will get the account reopened.

They are essentially hoping you will get frustrated and go away. So that they don't have to deal with you.

If you raise hell with the Supervisor, then they will escalate your problem to the Fraud team. Then you will get an email advising you that your account was closed. Then they will search and try to find any related buyer accounts and then they will close those.

If it's enough money you could file for arbitration.

Or file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Then hope someone will reach out to you and want to help.

I really wish we could file a class action lawsuit...

As I mentioned above. No guaranteed way. Plus, no way to reach an Account Specialist directly.

Persistence, hope, pray.

Or give up and move on.

Yeah, creating new accounts is your only real choice.

How long will the new buyer accounts last? 1-300 days. That's my guess.

This man knows what he is talking about. This has been my exact experience as well over many accounts.

The fact that they require you to use a difficult to find and outdated technology to send docs in (fax) tells everything. They make everything as frustrating and difficult as possible to get you to go away. Then they isolate the only people that can help you by making them more difficult to reach than God himself. They can treat customers this way because of their insane cash flow, they just don't care. The "worlds most customer centric company" is actually the opposite, when the algo decides you are not wanted.

The type of ban you are referring to has become a plague in the last month. Everyone I've talked to has been struggling with it. It's been called a shadow or ghost ban because they simply take away access to the account without as much as an email or message saying the account is locked. You will simply get wrong password or if you try and use the forgotten pass link, you get this screen:

As soon as I see one of these Shadow Bans I just immediately move on. Not worth the trouble and near impossible to get back. Talking to them seems to make thing worse as Zippie mentioned then they track down other related accounts. The only way to combat it is to keep a low enough balance that you don't lose a ton when it goes down.

I hate doing what they want : Making us grunt and walk away angry, but quietly.

If you only have 1 buyer account, used your real information, and bought legit gift cards from a safe source - then go ahead and raise hell. If you are in the US, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You have no downside risk except you are possibly wasting your time.

My personal rule is Don't Wake the Sleeping Dragon! Basically, to always tread lightly when dealing with Amazon. This goes for buying and sometimes for selling.

Unfortunately, this plays right into Amazon's plan. Make it difficult (send an untraceable fax?!) and hope they go away. If they (the customer) are aggressive and annoying, then make it more painful for them. Until they get too frustrated and give up.

I liken this to Quicksand. The more you struggle the worse it gets.

I agree wholeheartedly, but the sad reality is that we are running businesses here, and expediency most often has to take precedence over winning the battle. In the beginning I faxed and faxed, called and called. The sad, slow realization is they can legally steal your GC balance (read, money) and they know you won't do anything about.

I read of a guy who took them to court over it to prove a point for his blog, he spent 3 years before he got a settlement. Thats how much effort it takes.

how long did it take you to reinstant your account upon sending fax? I still haven't got request for documents, but I send a fax 3 days ago and called them, they told I'll get a form, but I didn't

Live and learn noob. I am a noob and torched $600 with an Amazon Buyer account. Learn from lesson, we all want to evolve away from being noobs in terms of understanding the risk/reward model of an Amazon Buyer account.

It's not just noobs but people who have a great deal of experience with this are struggling right now..

True points, we need to learn and adapt. I highly doubt it’s in Amazon’s best interest to shut this down. If you use a real credit card, your own name and do good business for Amazon, my experience is your buyer accounts will be okay.
