Default Enhanced Seller Protection

Rarely do we hear good news about selling on ebay until recently.

For top-rated sellers located in the U.S. and who offer 30-day returns, eBay is introducing two new financial protections. First, eBay will issue a seller invoice credit to cover return label cost if a buyer makes a false "item not as described" claim.

"Second, eBay will now allow these sellers to issue partial refunds for all items that are returned damaged. These protections will be live in the U.S. on October 1, 2019.

As someone who has TPS, it's not worth it. the 1% discount really means instead of being charged 10% to sell on ebay alone you'll be charged 9% but be on the hook for return shipping charges. Partial refunds for items returned damaged? I wouldn't accept it at all back damaged. This is a Recipe for disaster!

100% of our qualified accounts are Top Rated. It just means you offer excellent service and are not a hack.

You have to accept all returns... and then go from that point. It really sounds like you do not have much selling experience.

We're already able to issue partial returns for things like that. What's different with the upcoming 10-1-19 date?

And also, who gets to determine if it's a false "item not as described" claim?

I was thinking the same thing. If I recall correctly partial refunds have been an option in returns for at least a few months now, right?

We currently can not issue a partial refund after a return is accepted. So if the item comes back damaged, or opened up, you are screwed unless you spend a lot of time on the phone.

As of October 1st, Someone send back half the order, you just refund half the money, no accepting, no filing reports etc..

If someone sends back a damaged item, no fraud reports, no calling ebay etc..

If someone opens a return case and never sends the item back, ebay gives the funds back plus removes and negatives etc...

Maybe that's the date they're making it final/official. I've had the option to issue partial refunds in return cases for a few months now. When I click "refund the buyer" in the return request I'm taken to a page where I can choose to refund either the whole amount or an amount I enter. I'm pretty sure there was an eBay announcement in seller hub about it when it first became an option.

That is interesting. We can not issue anything but a full refund on the two accounts we are getting returns on.

It is a total pain in the rear to call ebay to handle them.

It's been several months since I've seen the screen, but I think it has a sliding scale and lets you pick the percentage you want to refund the customer.

lol let me guess. We gotta call in, to get that amazing $2.69 back? And how do we prove it's false? I've already been able to get a refund on shipping costs for such things, when the buyer blatantly shows his hand, but I've never called in for it specifically. But maybe it's worth it for people selling bigger items.

you have to offer free returns to be able to do that.

If you offer free returns, which is what allows you to do this in the first place, you already are paying damn shipping for buyers remorse and shiit. a SNAD on a free return doesn't cost you anymore. But of course it dings your account having too many of them. Now if we could appeal them and strike them from the record, cool. But calling in to get a few bucks back? Nah. If the buyer pisses me off, I'll just charge 50% fee lol. Ebay protects from negative feedback, even for legitimate SNAD's.

Currently you do have to call in. We do it in Batches. Get any strike, feedback, fees, item cost, etc... We have had to do it twice in the past couple months. I believe the first ones totaled close to $700 and last week a little over $300

ALL the same group of buyers. We get the items back, prove they are linked accounts and our $$$ and it is getting really old

We don't have to. Ebay sorts it out with the buyer. Sometimes they will even reimburse the buyer for the partial part they didn't receive from the seller.

And they keep an eye on things for possible patterns to make sure both parties aren't abusing the policy.

That is a completely different topic. And ebay will reimburse the buyer EVERY time, as long as they ask.

I'm talking about the refund of shipping costs.
