Default Taxpayer status

Logged into paypal and I see this notification saying "Because you receive payment for goods or services through PayPal, you must verify your U.S. taxpayer status to avoid limitations to your account." They sent an email yesterday also.

Is that the new way of them telling you it is time to add an EIN?

It only lets me choose ssn or itin so can I get around that by upgrading the account to a business and just adding the EIN that way?

Also when upgrading to business, I put my real name and business address(my home address? can't remember what I put on other accounts it has been awhile) right?

Put your business name. You should still be able to use the EIN.
ANd match the address on your acc with your EIN address

On the screen where I enter my SSN it shows my stealth name greyed out with just the SSN to enter. Would that be okay to enter the EIN right there with the stealth name?

Or should I upgrade to business? (worried about them asking for documents too)

My address on PayPal did not match my EIN number. I had no problems. You can't match the addresses because your PayPal address is a stealth address.

But the name...
if I choose to just add SSN I get this screen with it showing my stealth name in grey and I cannot edit(I used paint to erase the name before uploading) https://gyazo.com/ef5f460f1bec621f7fb851ac193c3edd

or if that is bad I should upgrade to business?
on this screen I am confused also
https://gyazo.com/c80ec0202a5b253fc3e8f0b38241dde0
do I put my real EIN phone number and address there.....or all stealth on this screen.
(guessing there is another screen that asks for the EIN and that is where I Put my real info)

The address does not have to match the EIN but the name must match exactly

If the new business name is Free Style 2384 Inc. Then you must have it exactly the same when upgrading and adding the EIN.

Paypal will ask the IRS only one question and that is, "Does this name match this number?" and the IRS replies Yes or No.

You can change the address and phone number BUT do not insert any previously used/banned addresses or phone numbers.

Well the last time I tried to add an EIN they IMMEDIATELY asked for documents, including utility bill in EIN name, etc. not a solution anymore.

That is not the standard but it does happen more and more. There must be reasons why.

I have not run into this. The only problem we have run into at all is if you do not have an SS number on the account, or at least the last four, you can only withdraw to a bank or spend from a bank or send in articles of Incorporation or equivalently to get around the SS. Also, not a problem for us.

When adding ein info and social is requested are we able to still use last 4 of ein.
If not and no social is listed but ein is are we able to go over the 200/20000?

Do we have to supply ss# if ein is provided to go over 200/20000
Hope this makes since. Thanks

In PayPals eyes, an EIN is a SSN. The EIN will allow you to go past 200/20000, however you will be sent a tax document and will have to file federal taxes at the end of the year.

My advice is to start your LLC early. You'll want your company to show "active" when searched on-line which takes a couple of months. This also gives your lawyer ample time to prepare and send you your articles of incorporation paperwork so you'll have it ready when asked by PayPal. Bottom line: if your sales are robust, don't wait until PayPal asks for SS #, preplan and you'll be ready. An EIN number is not enough anymore, documents are often requested for upgrading. These may include ultilty bills, bank statements, letters in good standing by your state and others. Get creative and start planning ahead.

I just wanted to make sure that ein was enough to continue on past 200/20000.
I do pay taxes on any money made from online sales regardless of the amount anyways. I will add ein in couple of days as still waiting for records to show up with my ein so it can be verified.

This is a different issue but I had to add a checking account(US bank) to my paypal yesterday(confirmed yesterday) because all I had was a savings. I didn't make many sales at all since the new paypal cash thing a few months ago so I didn't notice the max 6 withdrawls allowed until last week. My issue is now i am getting an ERROR when trying to purchase a label when I click on the button.
Last night I was able to print one at around 6pm and then right after I couldn't until I tried later around 11pm when it worked again but then right after it didn't work again. I just tried an hour ago and it didn't work. Is this because of the newly added bank that there is a limit on how many you can print in a day or something until you build trust? Sort of like how when you first sell your first few items on a brand new account you post slowly? Or am I having a paypal primary funds setup issue or? I emailed paypal, waiting for more help.

A fellow ebayer friend told me I have to add my real CC and pay for labels that way. But I thought just having a checking would fix that?

you gotta confirm ss data to be able to use funds for labels. you have to use bank or cc to pay for the label if you dont confirm ss data

This account is over a year old...I've had my savings attached with no issues until this new paypal change a few months ago. I just opened a checking friday and confirmed the 2 deposits yesterday. I was able to print 2 labels yesterday. But in between times I get an error message.
