What ids work for Paypal and what they check? do they run id in database? or just by looks?

They just look at it. I always use a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ drivers license. They don't have access to government or DMV databases so there isn't really anything they can verify. I've read that passports never work so definitely don't get one of those. I have seen at least one person gets called out on having a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ drivers license but they were selling lots of very expensive items and everyone guessed someone at PayPal thought it needed a second look. I've only read about that happening once though.

PayPal doesn't have access to government or DMV databases directly, but they have other ways of verifying the info via third party information providers/brokers.
