Default Do you think Wish poses a threat to eBay?

I heard about Wish few years ago and took a look at its business model today, the guys are basically giving Chinese suppliers a platform through which they come in direct contact with buyers all over the US and Europe (similar to Aliexpress).

The problem with Wish's business is that the quality of the products being sold is crappy and shipping times are horrendously long.

If they could push suppliers to sell higher quality products and improve shipping times by running their own warehouses, I think they could grab a piece of the e-commerce market. However, they don't have deep pockets to fund such ambitious expansions and they have already won the bad reputation of being the worst junk yard.

So what do you think? Do they pose a danger to eBay or not?

Wish's model is not as advanced as eBay, sure they can take a little cut like etsy and poshmark, etc, but unless they become better than eBay like Amazon, they won't over take eBay.

I've just searched for different items on Wish and made a quick comparison with the same products being offered on eBay, there is really no huge difference in pricing at all. If you also take shipping time into consideration, Wish turns out to be a disaster.

I can't wrap my head around the fact that this company raised 500 million dollars!!

Well, it's like you said, they remove the middle man and make it easy for consumers to get same quality products at discounted pricing.

If I have learned anything about people, all they care about is price. It can take 4-6 weeks.. they don't care as long as it's 1/10 the price.

Wish's model works because it's a good deal. If they didn't have that they wouldn't be as popular as they are

I think the main reason they got popular was because of how hyped up people were about the very low prices they had so everyone was jumping and wanting to buy something off Wish. The YouTube ads made by Wish also played a big role in that popularity.

For the products being sold on that platform, they are absolutely of garbage quality most of the time and they cost as much as the stuff available on eBay (Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but it is 100% true).

I think as long as Wish is letting suppliers ship from China, they pose no danger whatsoever to any other marketplace. However, I see them capable of making noise if they choose to operate warehouses from within the US or Europe, but that will jack prices up quickly and they could lose their competitive advantage real fast.

I wish I had no experience. The product quality is really terrible. When I paid the cargo in my country, I paid more taxes than the actual price of the product. That's why I never took anything again.

The company is run by crooks who are stealing people money, when I first read about buyers loosing their money and getting nothing in return I thought these might be pissed off scammers who couldn't get a freebie or something, but then the same story kept popping up and I decided to read Wish's feedbacks in Germany and boy do the stories repeat themselves

I think the people behind this venture made the decision to become rich via ripping off customers all over the world especially those who reside in Brazil and eastern Europe. A lot of people got half of what they've originally ordered btw.

Asking to return your order will most of the time get your buying account toasted.

I think Wish got popular because everyone wanted to give it a shot and try the ridiculously cheap products offered there, but later they learned that it is not worth a penny

What truly pisses me off is the special treatment China is getting in terms of postal rates, that should be brought to a halt immediately because it is really affecting all online retailers in the US and Europe. Retarded Chinese vendors who do business for the profit of a penny shouldn't be allowed to destroy legit businesses in the west, I am really sick of this ****, the incompetence and the empty promises on the part of western governments is wearing me thin

how about the 100 emails per week about policy changes or new penalties for sellers? i have never seen anything like that in my life. and i just ran into the new policy where you can only change your prices by a certain percentage every 120 days.............................i didn't even know that existed yet until i created a new listing that took about 75 days to even be approved by their review team.

They claim that there are households who can't afford buying a 5$ item on eBay for god sake, that is ludicrous and false. If someone can't shop in Walmart for 1-5$ items, then how could they have online banking and a smartphone to shop on Wish!

My theory about this company is that they intend to make money by ripping off both customers and sellers and then at the end pull an exit scam (legally).

Wish has been building a bad rep for selling low quality products. I don't think it can compete at a huge scale
