Has Coronavirus affected DHL and other carriers shioments from China? I know BA have stopped all passenger flights. IS this extended to freight, or is it still operating for freight?

Havnt heard anything to that effect.
Of course the whole situation over there impacts the workforce so I can imagine shipments will get delayed and not necessarily due to the flights out of China of merchandise and packages.

Because to date, there is no information on the DHL website about coronavirus except that deliveries can't get out of Wuhan.

Same here.

It was originally 1/31. The USA started restricting travel from China yesterday. Given that we still have 2 weeks before the Chinese return to work from CNY, and coronavirus is still getting worse every day, I wouldn't be surprised if they start restricting imports sometime before the Chinese start shipping again.

It would be a last resort since the US gov't is aware of how vital Chinese imports are to our economy.. especially immediately after CNY. But it looks like it's heading in that direction.

Just yesterday major airlines started announcing they aren't flying to China until things cool down (Delta & american airlines). American companies with a presence in China (Disney, Tesla, etc) have suspended Chinese operations until further notice. Next step would be for shipping companies to follow suit.

Some have already returned to work but told to work 'remote'?
Airlines have to cancel flight ,no sense flying empty planes as there are no customers going to China, also pilot and attendants are now protesting for their own safety.
Starbuck,Mcdonald,Luckin ,many retail stores are either closed or have limited hours.
I heard Wuhan supermarkets are empty,as they cant bring grocery items fast enough to satisfy local demands.

Whengzou city is now on lock down till 17th Febuary. No one is allowed to leave their flats other than every two days, one person can leave to get food. Its draconian at best. Government workers can return to work on the 9th, but Enterprises have to wait till the 17th.

This is where a huge amount of factories are, a large portion of aliexpress type suppliers operate here (enterprises). So no goods will be leaving the Zhejiang province for the forseeable future.

I am already starting to run low on some things, and out of others...I'm debating taking a holiday as the backlog of getting shipments out even once this clears is going to be crazy...Bad times as I had a crappy January overall but things had just started picking up.

I don't think anything is allowed to be exported from China at the moment. My suppliers are processing orders for me right now but can't sent packages out of the country

Exports haven't been restricted yet, but I foresee that happening soon if the trend continues. The only reason things can't be shipped right now that I'm aware of is because it's still Chinese New Year and workers haven't returned to work yet. They're having a much more difficult time than usual because of all the cities on lockdown, but officially, Chinese New Year started on January 25th and it lasts for 15 days. Everything is shut down during CNY so you can never have anything shipped this time of year. DHL, Fedex, etc aren't working over there right now, regardless of the virus.

I just sent my supplier my post-CNY order and asked when they think they'll be able to get it out. I'm not expecting anything sooner than the 10th since that's when they told me last month they'll start working again. We shall see...

It will be an impact for most and the global economy but things will resume eventually and I predict it will all blow over within 3 months or so before most operations resume fully if there is any full restrictions in regards to shipping. I can imagine soon there would be however...

Of course 3 months is a long time and it would be interesting to see the impact from the lack of trade shipments from China if it happens and not just for those selling on eBay or AMZ but I can imagine it will be mass of shipments more than any courier can handle once shipping can resume again what with a large backlog so we could see even further delays even after the green light. Certainly good to prepare just in case and either take holiday or look to other source to tide business over...

One of my favourite proverbs is “chance favours the prepared mind”

Whenzhou has the highest number of cases and deaths outside of the epicentre, and the Mayor has been a lot stricter in these lock down than Wuhan, with a complete restriction on going outside other than once person every two days for a food trip, nothing else.

EMS/Post office dosent actually close on CYN, only a couple of days as we do for NY, so if you have a supplier who dosent holiday, often shipments can be sent. I had two thankfully exported on Saturday before the lock down. Im not sure about DHL as my factory who uses DHL does holiday until the 15th, so this was expected. EMS packages take an extra couple of days as they are disinfecting each package before export. How the recieving country handles them will be interesting. However with Wengzou lock down, nothing will be open or happening, and apparently till the 17th Feb at a minimum. Children are already not going back to school until the 1st March.

The Hong Kong death will ignite something for sure, HK residents were already bouncing off the walls wanting the clode the borders before this.

If this goes on for another two weeks, this is becoming a real 'thing', not just an overreaction.

If the lockdown gets extended, I feel we will see some major issues, I know I will! But on the flipside I do hope it see's an end to the live wildlife markets in China, if you've ever witnessed those first hand, its soul destroying.

I know this may sound a bit naive , however i gotta ask. Do you think anything coming in from China can have a chance of carrying the virus? can we catch this thing by the products we import?
