Default Any limit to Paypal/eBay buyer protection?

Here's an incident that I'm still sour about: Somebody bought a $200+ item from me. I sent it to him, with Delivery Confirmation on the package. He gets the package, DC says it's delivered, I thought everything was fine. About 2 weeks later he emails me saying that the box was empty. He filed a Paypal dispute, called Paypal and told them the box was empty, and Paypal gave him his money back immediately! I called Paypal and they said there's nothing they can do because the dispute is closed. Now I am out the money and the item. What a mess!

So this begs the question... is there any limit to Paypal and eBay's buyer protection? What if this was, say, a $3500 item, or say a $10,000 item? Would the same exact thing happen? It seems ridiculously unprofessional that Paypal would just reverse a payment when somebody calls and complains, based on their word alone.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

So if it were a $3500 transaction the money would be reversed, but $10000 Paypal will hold onto it for a bit??? What's the limit?

Default of course there is limits

I have been on both sides of this paypal conundrum many times, and YEs there is a $2000 limit for any single transaction with the buyer protection, and anything beyond that and you have to utilize their escrow service. as to your situation there is little you can do threw paypal becuase their system is completly in favor of the buyer, and arguably, should be that way when you really sit and think of the possible scams, 90% of the risk is with the person sending the money, not the person recieving it.
Your situation sucks though, You have no proof it was a full box - contact the post master general and discuss the scam, see if there is ANY record of the weight of the package whilst in route so you have SOME sort of evidence that it was more than just an empty box. Contact paypal managment and threaten to file suit against them for defrauding you because it was ultimatly PAYPAL that facilitated this scam and without their cooperation it would never have happened.../ you can also file suit in that persons home town and simply sue them for it all of which would be an expensive waste of your time.
If it were ME in that situation, I would watch that person / buyer very, very closely and when they sell something make sure you are the buyer (but dont use the same account or computer to make the purchase if possible) then just do the exactly same thing to them in reverse thus setting the universe right again, if you would like help, or an ally in correction this situation feel free to email me, I hate scam artists and would gladly help out, I will watch this thread in case my email is not attached
