Default Will eBay ever roll back its promoted listing mockery?

The top 5 spots on search are reserved for the promoted listings, it used to work differently on eBay where best performing sellers would get these spots.

This is a double selling fee and it eats up profits so using this service is really a no-go for me as well as millions of sellers.

Do you think this will ever be rolled back?

I don't see it going anywhere.

For me it's been more or less effective.

Exactly, the top 5 spots in my category are reserved and they perform so poorly.

This is absolutely counterproductive in the long term, I hope they will roll it back soon and give us back the good old eBay

There are stipulations. Some categories don't even HAVE any sponsored listings.

And I have had a few organic listings showing on top of the sponsored listings. And some being mixed in with the typical top 5 sponsored.

But of course I also see what you're referencing, in certain categories.

That said, I guess the stipulation is bid price.

They brought this up in some ebay chat. They are aware of this. Don't think they actually said they'd do anything.

The category I'm in right now, has a trending rate of 21%. Yeah, ok. I'm going to pay ebay 21% on top of the 10%, on top of the 3% paypal fees. OK.

That is BY FAR the highest I've seen or even heard of.

Most of mine are 5% or less.

You know the most funny part? The bar goes all the way to 100%. Right above that, it says " more likely to display". YOU DON'T SAY! As long as I'm willing to give ebay a 100% cut, and then pay 10% FVF on the full amount, plus paypal fee, AND ship for free. Ebay really is out of their minds. So for a low low fee of 113% plus shipping costs, I get the privilege of selling on ebay lol.

Promoting your listing at a smaller to negative profit margin for a little while will allow ebay to pick up on the sales velocity and it may lend to paying itself back when you're getting more sales than before + maybe the competition. Depends how competitive the category is.

Sales over time is sales velocity and it is ebay's most heavily weighted factor in the search ranking algorithm. You can usually bump any promoted listing off with a high enough promotion percentage, but gotta be able to last long enough at the set promotion rate to beat the competition's sales velocity before lowering it back down again. Can also lower it little by little after every sale.

It can be justified if it shows good potential in the long run.

at a trending rate of 21% is either a profitable item for selling or the sellers offering that rate have no intension of paying those fee's

trending rate is calculated and to an averaged rate, if you count the sponsored listings and there is very few, then 21% trending rate meens the top ones are clearly not intending paying the fee's as they are offering near to that 100% to get quick sales and run away, if there is loads of sponsored listings then it's a profitable item for selling which you only normally see if its a Prohibited item.
Having said that as i refer to "normally" means when things are normal,
There are people profiting from £1 line items like masks selling for £30 like dust masks stating that they offer 99% protection.
That protection is for dust and offer zero protection against virus's

Do you think this will ever be rolled back?
I started using it last fall during my slow season. MY sales tripled.

Hi guys,
I just activated Promoted for some of my listing on ebay.

I read previous messages in this thread and you seem to be able to see the "tranding rate" of the category you are selling in.

The only percentage I can see is "suggested ad rate". Does this value replace the trending rate?
or does it have a different meaning?

thanks
