Firefox profiles or firefox portable? What's better?

Is there any benefit in running accounts in portable vs profiles? With profiles I assume it's possible to have multiple profiles open at the same time running through different proxies? Whereas portables you can only have one open at a time... so is there a benefit in the portables vs the profiles?
