Ebay stealth and VAT

I have just registered for vat due to related business outside of ebay reaching the threshold. My ebay turnover is only £40,000 per year. I want to be a good boy and pay vat on my ebay income but don't want to give ebay my vat number as details will not match. So if I manually send invoices to customers with vat number on and pay tax (VAT) on my ebay income (seen when it enters my bank account) then there is never any need for ebay to see my vat number.

The reason I ask is that my accountant wants me to supply my vat number to ebay so that ebay can feed into the accounting software automatically, I don't want to have the difficult eBay Stealth account chat with my accountant.

Can anyone see any issues with this?

Thanks for the info, are you saying that there is a problem with doing everything correctly (paying the correct amount of vat) but just not giving ebay the vat number?

I have just read that you are not legally obliged to issue any (VAT) receipt to customers. Surely if some customers ask for a vat receipt I can supply them with one. I do not need to give my vat number to ebay as I am going to pay the vat to HMRC as my accounting software includes all of the ebay sales as well as other platforms. As far as ebay are concerned I have a turnover of say £40000 so they will be unaware of my overall turnover across all platforms. That is between me, my accountant and HMRC?

I think you need to find a new accountant if he can't explain things to you. That's what we pay them for.
