Will USPS raise prices dramatically in the near future?

The Trump administration is demanding USPS hike up their prices by up to 400% before they get a bailout, the point being made is that USPS is undercharging companies like Amazon and losing money on each delivery they make.


I haven't looked into the matter closely, but judging from the prices I pay inside Germany for mail delivery, I don't think USPS is undercharging anybody.

Their problem is the super steep discounts they've been bullied into giving huge shippers like Amazon. When the company sending the majority of packages gets a rate 60-70% lower than anyone else.. that's gonna cause problems sooner or later.

What they really need to do is wipe out the years of shady negotiated rates and put all shippers back on a level playing field. In the current system, smaller shippers are paying for Amazon's discounted rates. USPS jacks up our rates every year to make up for the losses they're taking by being obligated to deliver Amazon shipments overnight for $5.
