Default 12 hour shifts

Can anyone with experience or knowledge on the topic tell me how 12 hour shifts work in the UK ?
Is it you work 12 hours every day of the week and only get the weekends off that’s it?
I was told that the max you can work in a week is 48 hours but this would take you to 60.
Can someone let me know how it works as there is a job I’m tempted to go for but not sure about work like balance .

Usually you work maybe 3 or 4 days a week. E.g. monday to wednesday or thur you'll work 12 hours a day consecutively and then you'll have the remaining days of the week over. Some people prefer this, others prefer the 9-5 mon-fri, it depends. Also i'm not too sure about that 48 hour max, i've worked more and so have my family, depends on the job i think considering overtime.

Thanks - that made things clear for me now . Tbh with how you have explained the shifts I think they are not too bad especially for me since I live with my parents- couple days full at work and a couple off to rest . Sounds good to me .
Definitely looks more interesting than the standard 9-5. But i guess I’ll have to give it a go first .
