Default paypal debit card application needs social now?

Hey. I want to apply for a PP debit card on one of my stealth accounts, but when I went to apply, they are asking for the last 4 digits of my social. As this is a stealth, I certainly don't have a proper social security # to give them. As I understand it, the last 4 digits of anyone social is just a random serial number (not a code for any important info like the earlier numbers), but will this be an issue? Will they know if I put in a false 4 digits? Has anyone had any experience with this recently? I did search before asking, but wasn't able to find much on the topic. Any insight is appreciated.

Been happening for the past 7 months. The number MUST match the SSN number of the name of the account. No random choice

Damn. Not that I doubt that's true, but how can they match the last 4 digits to the name? Isn't the last 4 digits of a US social just a randomly assigned number?

That means I can never get a pp debit card :(

That is a little odd if they ask for the last 4 numbers of the SS#...

From Wikipedia....

The last four digits are serial numbers. They represent a straight numerical sequence of digits from 0001-9999 within the group.

Sort of. The last four digits are actually sequential(not random). The middle two digits are as well and increment by 2s. After all of the even numbers are used, they use all the odds.

As a matter of fact your entire SS number is sequential.

First three are state identifiers. Next two are sequential and increment by twos, starting on evens and then using odds. The last four are also sequential, the person who received their number after you is exactly one number higher. IE 2322->2323.

If they have a database, I*guess* they could string match it against everything in there. No issue on modern computers.

If you read between the lines in their latest T&C, this is exactly what they have. Not specially stated but along the lines whatever we need to do to prove ID.

The best way to get a paypal debit card is to use your real info and then buy stuff from yourself wth your stealth account.

I'll be getting my original powerseller account and paypal with debit card ( w/ all real info) reinstated as soon as I pay off my negative balance.

Then I'll just sell laptops to myself and head to the atm...

Getting a debit card for myself isn't a problem, but I was interested i getting them for stealth accounts.. I still don't see exactly how the can identify you by the last 4 digits of your social though. I always understood the last four digits of a social as just a set of numbers. Yes, they are serial in that they follow an order and aren't handed out randomly, but they don't contain specific identifying info like the other numbers that have info about issuing state, etc. Either way, it is what it is....apparently they know =/ I really wish I applied for them when I was first able. The debit card withdraw method was epic =)

But if you buy stuff from yourself then the money goes from your stealth accounts to your personal one with the debit card. You just put up a buy it now listiting of something you don't even have and pay for it from your stealth...

I rather do it as If I'm really the buyer because what IF paypal limits your personal account and you don't have the tracking number of the item when they ask for it. Then you're account will be permanently limited because of a few couple of dollars. It's better to make everything look 100% legimitate.

Yeah but you won't need tracking because you can leave feedback the next day since you both live in the same city.

You (usually) only have 1 real legit social for yourself. There's no way I'm having mine in any way connected (or linkable) to any potentially limited stealth account. Any time you buy or sell to yourself, you're creating a potential link. Even if there's no correlation in contact info, IP, cookies, etc...it still leaves the door open for paypal to claim that such a connection exists and bring your legit account into question.

And the good thing about that is you can only verify your real account, if they ask to verify the slealth one you won't be able to so they would never be able to link accounts to your social.

What I meant was you wouldn't be able to supply a ssn for your stealth acc. only your real one and in the case of buying stuff from your real acc. from your stelth acc. you wouldn't want to any way, so it's a win win situation.

I might be missing something, but if you're saying that you can't get linked (or more importantly limited), by doing what you're suggesting, then I yhink you're mistaken. True, they can't necessarily come up with a concrete connection between the legit account with the verified social and the stealth buyer accounts that can't have their socials verified, but they can (and most likely will) still link you based on your transactions. Linking isn't just about shared contact/computer info. If you have what they deem to be a high number of transactions with other users who are found to be high risk, they will in turn deem you to be high risk and monior your account more closely.

Yeah no doubt about that, that's why you do it in way that doesn't look high risk. Naturally buying 10 laptops from someone in the same city every week and leaving feedback right after purchase might look a little fishy. But but buyiing 1 item here, a different item there evrery now and then and leaving feedback 2-3 days later wouldn't look too suspicios.

I guess that's true if all of the stealth accounts used to buy the laptops stay in good standing, but if they start getting limited, then it won't take paypal long to follow the trail up to the legit account IMO.

Default They can find you thru your birthdate and last 4 of your social

There are many credit providers (GE Money, etc) that make credit decisions based on the last 4 of your social and DOB to find your credit score. Somehow, somewhere there is a database.....

Why go through ebay at all? Can't the legit account just send a money request to the stealth, it can be handled between only paypal, or a different place like Etsy, even your own website. However buying the same item your selling might look strange, not sure how closely they look at things. Maybe this would work?

Another way is to buy gold and silver boullion or something similar, there's plenty of sites that accept paypal for that.
