Default Paypal wants a land line number

I've read some threads about this and I'm still a bit confused.

First let me say that STEALTH is the best and the help on this forum is incredible.

I've now been on ebay for two months (next week). Followed all the rules. Rung all the right bells and whistles and followed all the good advice. Today I signed on to paypal and I had to go through another silly verification process. All was well UNTIL they said they wanted a number to call. I gave them the cell number I had registered with them and they said NO WAY, they want a land line. My stealth account is in another state. Instead, I used the "address verification" which I believe will cause more problems because without giving them a land line I think I'm dead. Meanwhile, they are holding almost $3,000 of my money.

How do I get a land line that I can answer in another state. I've heard about ring central but I'm not sure exactly how that works. Can someone let me know or PM me soon because I have that sinking feeling of going down in flames.

Im not sure about this as I saw someone from tollfreeforwarding.com made a post on here but I know you can choose from a list of phone numbers in a state or region of your choice then have it forwarded to a cell phone.

I did this a year ago but not sure if pp is hip to it yet....its $20 a month last time I used it which is a lot BUT for $3k its nothing.

Are you talking about tollfree forwarding.com or ring central? You're right, $20 is a small amount of money to pay with my $3,000 sitting there. I'll be checking it out.

Also, another question for the forum in general. Once the process of asking for reverification starts...is it a matter of time until it becomes impossible?

I was talking about www. toll free forwarding .com not ring central....

I think users outside the US will have some problems with tollfreeforwarding.com as they do tend to get a little weird about verification process but from my understanding your in the states so it should not be so bad if paypal will let tollfreeforwarding's phone numbers be considered a landline.

They may ask you to call them....alot of people were abusing their first month free tollfree offered awhile back.

I do not know about the difficulty of the next steps for getting reverified. Have not had paypal bug us about phones in awhile.

I think its pretty crazy for someone to ask for a landline when a lot of people don't have them anymore.

Here is a link to the phone verification section of the forum in case you have not seen it yet.

I called tollfreeforwarding and they did not have a number in the state I needed. I called RINGCENTRAL and got a number and spent an hour or so on the phone with the rep setting up the account right, to go directly to my cellphone with the caller ID showing that the call came from RING CENTRAL. That makes it easy because it would only be paypal or ebay calling. Does anyone here have any good or bad experiences using ring central? I've seen some debate on this. Is ring central ok to use safely?

cant paypal sniff out if its a virtual # or land line? im almost 100% sure that it wont work cause if they have the abilty to tell a land line from a cell phone then they will know a vir # from a land line.

SIGH, if thats the case, I've read about other phone services here that might work. If this weren't happening I'd be thinking clearer. (Ebay is my only source of income). Can someone give me the name of a service to use to circumvent this.

yeah when u got to verfiy your location by phone theres no way it will work with anything but landline # I even tried payphones in the past and paypal new it was a payphone and said i couldnt use a public # to verfiy my account.

you could call paypal and tell them you do not have a landline # heck alot of people now days dont have landlines its just a extra bill to pay they cant force u to have one

How are US stealth users managing to complete phone verification? or is it not required?

Virtual numbers work pretty well for us in the UK.

From what I've read, I'm pretty sure they can tell whether you're using a landline vs. a cell phone when you talk to them on the phone. I don't know whether using VOIP might possibly be able to pass as a "landline" though? Has anyone here used that new MagicJack thing?

I too am curious about Magic Jack. It seems too good to be true. Anyone have any experience?

Thumbs up Magic Jack

Magic Jack is probably the best and cheapest. I have the magicjack for the past 2 years and paid for it for 5 years so with the price of the magic jack and 6 years of service it only costs me $120. But for an investment for a paypal account you could buy it for $40 at walgreens or best buy or online and then it only costs $20 for a year of service and then $10 everytime you change the number. Even when you change the number it forwards the old number for 30 days to the new number. But I know of another super cheap phone service that paypal can't detect as a landline I won't post it tho.
