using paypal on a website (not ebay)

got a query from someone my colleague was dealing with

they have a website which uses paypal for payment, they lost their paypal account and added a paypal in someone elses name and it was lost within a few weeks

i never realised paypal traces websites which are use paypal for payments?

Too right they do. Put holds and limitations on transactions as well.

Say 18 months ago, payments made using them off ebay went thro' reasonably well. They are getting tougher now. barstewards

so a website used with limited account is now fecked? would merchant account or something be a way around this?

Aye. Merchant account is the next step. There are several that might be considered. Tell your friend to look at this

Can someone confirm if this is true?

I'm currently in the same situation. Using non-ebay selling site. Notified last week pp acct (sister's) was limited requesting the litany of informaton. I actually added a stealth pp acct to it after taking most of my products down. Have gotten a couple of sales in the interim and the stealth one is still alive. Was thinking about adding my real pp acct to it but haven't pulled the trigger yet b/c I wanted to get a better sense of what they would do.

Are you saying that you made another new paypal account and linked it to your previous webstore and it still works?
