Default Stealth Paypal account is $3000 in the hole. Should I worry?

Hello, all! I have an interesting scenario that still peeves me to this day. I sold a $3000 item on my eBay Stealth account, which was paid for immediately through my linked-Paypal stealth account. After I got payment, I withdrew the money to my bank account, just to be sure I have the money, and sent the item off. No worries, right? Well, 42 days later, to my horror, I discovered that the buyer filed a Paypal dispute claiming that I sent him an empty package and Paypal sided in his favor and refunded him. Now my stealth Paypal account has a negative balance of $3000. So, my question is - should I worry about this? Both the eBay/Paypal accounts are stealth accounts (which I have since abandoned), but the bank account linked to the Paypal account is a real account in my real name (this is how I retrieved the money).

Should I worry? Also, how much money would eBay/Paypal have to be in the hole before they conduct a larger investigation? Thanks in advance for your help. I don't think I have much to worry about but I am still kinda scared.

hi.
Did you not sent the item tracked? If you have proof then you should give paypal that.

I mean the Paypal account must have been in good standing for you to receive a $3000 payment to begin with, so you must have had a lot of feedback and it was an older account. I dunno thats a pretty big amount though.

Sorry, I guess I left out some important info. The eBay account only had about 20 feedback and the Paypal payment went through that 3 week hold period which I had to wait through before I was able to withdraw the money. I did get the item tracked - it was an international package to Australia.

Hmm, that's a tough one....$3000 is a lot of money. I also shipped recently something Internationaly - to Italy by Registered mail so I have tracking. I looked on that receipt and I also looked on my customs receipt, but the part that's with me does not say anywhere about the weight of the package when I sent it. However, I know for sure it was weighted at the Post Office and they must have this info on the part they keep... So, I don't know what you sold for $3000, but hopefully it had some weight to it and that was registered. I'd go back with my receipt to Post Office and ask them what it was...This can be your only chance to convince PayPal that you indeed sent something in that package....

Ok, BUT... The receipt that Post Office gave you for the money you paid shows the weight of your package. Aha! So, let them tell you how much is the empty box, subtract and there you have your proof that you didn't send package empty...

So are you saying you waited 3 weeks before you sent the item? above you said you transfered the money to your bank to make sure you had the money.

Noooo, he had usual 21 day hold on funds from PayPal.. They gave it back to him cause I assume he entered tracking into PayPal and 21 days have passed and depending how fast the package was sent, it may have nt arrived to Australia yet...

Yeah but he said he had to wait 3 weeks to withrdraw the money but in his first he says he withdrew the money after he recieved it to make sure he had it than sent it off.

by Sacka_man "After I got payment, I withdrew the money to my bank account, just to be sure I have the money, and sent the item off."

sack_man"the Paypal payment went through that 3 week hold period which I had to wait through before I was able to withdraw the money."

Something doesn't add up.

Actually I sent the item right away but waited 3 weeks to withdraw the money. Sorry for the confusion.

high value goods attract scammers....I just think it is too risky to sell $3000 via paypal......

Im not saying you will lose the paypal dispute, as it seems you have tracking and enough info to prove the box weighed something....idiot scammer should have said it had a brick in it (amateur)......but we all know how paypal works and how it is weighed against seller.......

lol Ooompa, don't give them the idea what to do next time, cause you are right. But once something is said it is said, so they couldn't change it back with PayPal. OP keep us posted..

i thought this is what stealth accounts were for, worst case scenario just dump them....
so whats the worry??? plus why would they investigate further, when it was there decision to return the payment...its not like you sold an item pocketed the money and never sent the item out.... i wouldn't worry about it...

I don't believe for a second that a Paypal account with only 20 feedback and is new could take a $3000 payment, even if the 21 day hold does pass. You would get limited IMMEDIATELY.

With the withdrawal that high, you would have been limited in a heartbeat...

hmmmm...... Im conflicted on whether or not to give you advice. If it were me, I would have only accepted cash or certified check or bank wire for the item...
