Is there a list of IP addresses owned/used by ebay anywhere?
Here's why I ask: I have a feature about the item I sell that I'd like to advertise to my buyers, but not let ebay know I'm selling with this option. Its not illegal or hinkey or anything, its just against some bizzare ebay rule that there is no real basis for (no! Not one of those! Who'd have thought?!)
I'd post details here about what/how/why but we all know someone at ebay reads this board to keep up on whats going on.
My thought was to have an image in my description point to a dynamic image on a server... like
http://myimageserver/theimage.php - And if the viewer is loading the image to an IP thats owned by verizon, comcast, AT&T, etc, it shows them an image of text describing the against-the-rule thing.
But if it's an IP owned by ebay (or none-of-the-above in the worst case) it shows something else, a picture of the item, etc.
I figure it's a way to get info to buyers that ebay cant really see, thus it doesnt hurt me... now I know its not 100% foolproof, as an ebay investigator could always check my listings from his home PC - but if there was a tool/script that checked auctions, or read the database for keywords, etc... it'd be almost impossible for ebay to see it...
I thought it was a novel idea... like I said, not 100% foolproof - but MORE foolproof than hoping ebay doesnt notice that line of text in my auctions... my last account got nailed for it.
Is there a list somewhere? if I cant find one I may go with the other way... show only to known subnets of the major ISPs... not all customers would see it, but many/most would.
