Aimphoneline is gone as of today. This is not good for those of us in the US. Privatephone, from Netzero, stopped accepting new customers last week and will discontinue service on Dec 15th.

I cannot find a free replacement at this time. Grandcentral was acquired by Google a while back and they are not offering accounts for new users. I'll keep looking and keep you posted.

Yes, that's really bad news for us.
We can't use AIM phone now.

If we pay $10, can we still use AIM phone?

I don't think so. The only telephone service they seem to be offering now is a aim-out plan for calling out. Similar to Skype-out. They may have plans for an "aim-in" sort of service. This would either be a pay for service or built in for free into Aim. I guess we'll see.

So far I have found a few pay-for voice mail services. Some have a 30 day trial, but you have to put in a credit card to sign up. One I found called Gizmo project is $12 for 3 month and comes with a local number and client program for answering calls. However, gizmo's local number list is not that impressive. You can check it out here Gizmo – A free phone for your computer Link towards the bottom left.

I'll keep looking...

ebay sometimes ask us to verify our phone number. and when we click the PLACE CALL button on ebay, they will call us, but they will not leave us the pin number if we don't PRESS THE POUND button.
For Aim phone, we can answer the phone via the pc so we can press pound. that's OK for getting the pin number.
But for other services, if we can't press POUND, we can not get the pin number.
Please suggest.

Put the pound button a lot of times in your voicemail message.

Thank Jonas! Despite the local number in Seattle the k7.net account works great for setting up Ebay accounts. I guess I'll see if it throws up any red flags being that my mailing addresses for accounts are on the east coast.

If the account lives then evoice looks like the best solution at $5 a month and they don't bill you for 30 days.

Thanks again!!!!

Oh and you need to have a voicemail message that lets you put pound in there without it ending the message.
