Can you actually sell on ebay uk without paypal?

i dont mind setting up a merchant account and using a checkout service.
can you actually sell on ebay uk with either a pre or post 11/07 account without actually accepting paypal?

new ebay accounts seem to have to attach a paypal account to be able to sell.
older accounts dont have to actually attach a paypal account, but i THINK you have to accept paypal on this listings in most categories otherwise ebay wont actually allow you to list an item.

if this is the case, and you have to accept paypal in most categories, what is the point in a merchant account? if you put paypal on the listing id guess nearly every sale will go through paypal.

ive read about accepting a merchant account and the post 11/07 accounts having to fax in merchant info, and the pre 11/07 not having to fax info, however on my pre 11/07 accounts i still have to offer paypal as payment method in most categories.

The point of merchant account in pre 07 accounts is that you can easily direct customers to pay the merchant account rather than paypal directly.

Yes you DO offer paypal but some merchant processors accept paypal without you having one....remember that.

i understand some merchants take paypal for you.....but...

as far as im aware you have to list a paypal email address in the listing when you list an item. this allows the customer to pay the paypal email address through ebay straight away when they win the item. if this is the case then i cant see many not using this method and paying into the merchant account.

if on the other hand, if you dont have to put a paypal email address in the listing when you list an item, i can see how this would work. you accept payments via the merchant and if the merchant takes paypal then the customer can also use paypal.

i dont see how you can get around this with having to put a paypal email address in the listing.

be interested in this also as 99.9% of my problems is paypal never ebay problems.
