I was looking at the newish Intel i7 980x which some suppliers sell and they sell for like $265!!!! wtf? that price is so low and i have talked to like 4 suppliers who all say they are a manufacturer yet they have no website and use msn email adress? Alibaba just seems like a scam website!!!

You'll find the good, the bad and the ugly in every business. Alibaba is just the platform people use to sell their products just like eBay, been said before many times, you just gotta find the right sellers.

Alibaba used to be a scam place for alot and if you look at their forums you will find out. I lost about 40k 3 years ago on loans trying to do business before the system has changed now. I was in the electronics and game consoles market along with phones. Alot of scammers back then when I was sending stuff with western union, moneygram, and paypal too.

There are still scammers, but maybe legit people now.

Alibaba is a completely legitimate company. They own Vendio and are publicly traded.

But, just like with eBay, not everyone advertising their stuff there is honest.

AliExpress accepts credit cards and is much more suited for smaller buyers. Charging the orders offers you SOME protection. I have found a couple of good suppliers there. And others that I would never order from again.

They are more legitimate than DHgate, but all of the trademarked and branded stuff is STILL COUNTERFEIT. So buyer beware.

alibaba just is a source platform, you need to verify the products what you are going to buy are genuine or not by your experience or any other help. There are a lot of quality and trust factories and supplier there but there are a few bad suppliers as well. There are a lot of good way to deal with them, such as safe payment, sample order, factory visited and so on.
