Default Sellers, will you take less if an item isn't selling?

There was this promotional vhs tape I saw on ebay a while back that I kind of wanted but the guy wanted 25 dollars for it so I offered to buy it for $15 after the auction ended for the fourth time without selling. He declined. The item is rare but it's not something that would be highly sought after and for god's sake it's a vhs tape. I don't see the need to hang on to stuff if it aint selling especially if you didn't pay a dime for it. These tapes are provided free to ppl who work in the industry and can get their hands on them. Sometimes ppl are just too greedy for their own good.

Maybe he's emotionally attached to it and doesn't really want to sell? I knew someone once that always claimed he would sell his house if he would get a million for it. Then one day someone offered him a million and he turned him down.

Why would you get emotionally attached to stuff you randomly got for free?

If someone has it in their head an item has a certain value to it, they'll stick to it and won't settle for any less. Like my 87 mustang GT. Its blue book value is 2k-3k, but after all the work and money I put into it, I wouldn't sell it for less then 9k. And that's a steal.

When people like you ask for an item, without offering the value he/she thinks it deserves, he/she just knows there's a demand for it, so they try to list it again. You drawing attention to the item gives it more value. If you know what I mean.

Your example is not comparable to what I'm talking about. You own something that has value on the open market as well as sentimental value. But iIf you can get random free stuff from your job that could or not be worth anything and you're having a hard time selling it then I think it's time to move on and take the lower price rather than get nothing at all. There is no purpose to hording stuff you get for free hoping you're going to get that magical price for it at some later date.

It has value to you. It'll have value to him too. Supply and demand?

All depends if it is a rare item or easily replaced by the seller. I know I am always willing to deal if people ask, but my item can be easily replaced and I have no attachment to them.

Well he tried to sell it 4 or 5 other times and never got any takers so I would figure demand was low to nill.

If he doesn't care about the money he wouldn't try to haggle.

HI- I agree with ASpkin-- Im kinda that way-- if I cant get the price I feel its worth- I'll keep it--OR better yet-- I donate it.
I would rather see a church or someone in need have the item, than know someone who HAS the money to buy it just wants a deal.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I work long + hard hours every day- wrk mostly 7 days/week, have alot of kids. 2 months ago- tried to sell our 84 inch Mitsubishi Diamond tv- paid over $13k -4 yrs ago w options, asked $7500- people trying to get for 1500,1299, etc. So- i took it to the Sunday School at church- donated it-now the kids watch the ed.tapes I felt better about that than selling for even 7499--can you understand this??..

That big of a price difference I can understand donating, but the OP offered 60% of the original asking price on the VHS, so to be equal it would have been like you turning down $4500. Would have made your decision a lot harder, plus with huge, heavy items you have to factor in the pain and expense of shipping.
