i heard with aol you're automatically assigned a new ip address everytime you sign on, is that true aspkin or just a myth?

With broadband, at least - you will be assigned a new IP every once in a while, but not "always". Using multiple eBay accounts with AOL this way works perfectly for me though regardless of which IPs I'm on, though. I haven't run into a problem yet.

EXACTLY! When you're using this method I am, you must be careful to do *everything* remotely connected to eBay through the AOL interface rather than Explorer or something else that is directly connected to the net through your ISP. Otherwise you run the risk of getting your real IP address exposed.

If, for example, you are doing everything to create your eBay account flawlessly through AOL and then you just open up the stupid email they send you through Internet Explorer you're screwed.

I've noticed with AOL users, as I check my website logs and with another site my live support logs AOL users IP address change with every page view. They can be viewing one page then they click on another, their IP would be different. It's just AOL users too.

HI- I use AOL Exclusively. I can also vouch for them sometimes changing, sometimes not.
However- every time- I log out of an aol acct- I cleared the cookies/cache/browser in IE, + I go into security/internet prop on aol drop down- and clear tracks, then close-open up -do it again, then log in under diff id..
--BTW-- I do all of my work-shipping etc -under that id for that id--nothing else. then log out.
__For personal reasons- I Never open a buyers email from aol-- I always just delete it- go into ebay and answer the buyers questions--
__ also-- I NEVER open up Ebay email from aol or ebay- I let it sit-- until i can either go to a library or use my palm treo to open it.. (thats just me)--
__ I am paranoid- as ai had a buyer install a Keylogger on me a couple months ago by opening his email ++++ I had a competitor --(could be same guy)-- take My Email HEader from aol-- change my Verbage--copy/paste -then send to Trust + Safety with cuss words etc---Needless to say- they suspended that acct + several others Pronto--now I do not answer buyers emails in aol,, this way their only header is (member @ ebay.com)

ebayhateluv-

good point, I forgot to mention but I always make sure to do that too.. about the logging out of AOL, clearing cookies/etc, then going into AOL for each individual ID. I'm not so sure how necessary all of it is, but like you I also tend to be kind of paranoid.

Well after the lag I hit during the holidays, constantly going out of town and what not - I really need to step it up in the next few days with the opening multiple accounts.. I tried running a 3-day auction on a zero feedback account just recently and boy was that a big mistake! The account had even aged for at least a week already so I didn't think they'd suspend me right after opening my first auction. Well at least I know not to do THAT again. :o

I tried doing this AOL trick tonight. I have static cable and have a lot of trouble changing my ip unless i dial up through Juno which is so slow.

Everytime I log on through aol and check my ip through ipchicken I get the same ip address. Is there any trick or method to getting it to give out a different ip? I also noticed that if I check it through a different ip tracker it will give me a different ip than ip chicken but each page gives the same ip that it gave before.

This would make me think that eBay would get the same ip everytime I log in.

I'm using 9.0. I just tried it again and it did give me a new ip. It looks like I'll have to log in and out a few times for it to give me a new one maybe.

Okay, just make sure to check your IP (and everything else relevant to eBay) through AOL's browser while you're logged in and not through Internet Explorer. It seems that some people have been making that mistake in the past.

btw I've been using AOL 9.1 if that makes any difference.

I just down loaded AOL 9.0 And I was checking out the tool bar (which I'm not familiar with), and I was trying to delete the cookies, and I know on internet explorer you delete the cookies by way of going to tools, internet options. But I can't seem to figure out how to do it on the AOL 9.0.
Any help would be great

htown,

I'm having the same problem..mine just gives me 2 different ips.. I upgraded my version from 9.o to 9.1 but it still gives me the same 2 ips. I was really hoping to get around having to dial in to juno. Talk about a slow connection!!

If you figure anything out let me know and I'll do the same!

I also use 9.1 and only get 2 rotating IP's on broadband. I used 2 checkers that I have seen on this site..ipchicken and IPBurger...both gave me different numbers but only the last 3 digits were different. Also I have been using Auctiva so I only have to spend a vey small amount of time on dial-up.

I am so tired of Juno's slow connection that I'll usually go to an internet hotspot with my laptop.

Like you with AOL, different ip checkers give me different ips than each other but they are still the ips that they gave me last time.
