Default Please help, I've been screwed so many times...

About 2 months ago, I was involved in a transaction over CL and mailed an authentic product to a customer. (Before the transaction took place, I told the buyer that I didn’t have the receipt anymore and she was fine with that). When she received it, she was grateful and intended on keeping it. But 2 days ago, she contacted me and said that she mailed it to her friend all the way in Indonesia who is now claiming that it isn’t authentic. (She even said that it was taken to stores to have this verified). Now her friend wants to return the product and wants even more money ($900) for what it was originally paid for.

What should I do? I’m uncomfortable accepting a return when the product went all the way around the world when it was only supposed to go to one person. Am I liable for this? The original buyer was keeping it and this took place quite a while ago. The original buyer paid through PayPal (my account has my ssn (this is not a "stealth" account – it’s over 2 years old)). What’s the worst thing that could happen? She sent a money request, but did not file a claim with PayPal. What would happen if I just delete my account? What if she eventually filed a claim? What could happen if I only pay half?

I’ve been screwed so many times and taken advantage over. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

More than 2 months - you should be relatively ok. Keep all the information that the buyer sent you just in case of dispute but because the sale is outside of eb ay, buyer does not have as much protection.

And, not to be a critic, for future sales don't go via paypal when you don't have to! All the best.

So I shouldn't refund any money? Should I close my paypal account?

Paypal doesn't offer much protection to outside sellers of Ebay.
If she does open a case & If you can provide a tracking number to paypal.
You're more likely to win, Paypal actually side with buyers outside of Ebay.

Don't even bother to pay half, that wont do anything, but HOPEFULLY satisfy the buyer which i doubt will since in fact she believes it's ⊗⊗⊗⊗.

I think the worst is, if she paid by her bank via paypal -- you'll probably be getting a chargeback. I know with ebay, they'll provide you your money even if a chargeback happens. I'm not sure if they do that outside ebay, doubt it though.

I believe the fear here should be a chargeback, not so much a claim.
So that's a good question. You have a SSN connected to that Paypal, so my advice to you, Follow up with anything you have to. If you close that account and you lose a claim you're account balance is gonna stay -900 and your SSN is gonna go bad for paypal.

Cross your fingers on this one. Because anything can happen when you're dealing with paypal.

Thats pretty much it. I'm afraid if they push this with her bank or credit card you will lose

You could tell her its been two months now and a return is just not accepted

If its counterfeit you shouldn't have used a real account. If its real, stand your ground. Not everyone knows they can win by calling card company so you may take a chance

I suspect its not real since you want to try give half back. So you sold a counterfeit for $900. So you are in a game that has this.... You may have to close your bank and card attached to this PP. You can not just close the PP account, that doesn't really do anything

Your options are to:
close it all up and run
or refund the money
or fight and hope she doesn't take it above PP

No easy way out of this one I'm afraid

So here is how I see this......

You sold something to Person 1 - No problem
Person 1 paid you through Paypal via a money request.
Person 1 received the item from you (with tracking I hope).
Person 1 is happy with the item.
Transaction closed.

NOW
Person sales/gives the item to Person 2.
Person 2 does not like it.
You did not sell it to person 2.
Person 1 sold it to Person 2
In reality you had nothing to do with the Person 2 transaction.
Now Person 1 is trying to hold you responsible.
Crock of crap.

I had this happen to me a few years ago.
I won the Paypal case.
I kept my money and the other person kept the item.

If I purchased a item from Wal-Mart and sold it on eBay.
Then my buyer did not like it.
Who is responsible?
Me, the seller, OR Wal-Mart, the supplier?
The answer is ME not my supplier.

In your case:
You = Supplier
Person 1 = Seller
Person 2 = Buyer

I would not close my account.
I would wait and force Person 1 to file a dispute.
If and when they do ask them to please explain WHY they are filing the dispute.
I am pretty sure they will be dumb enough to say that the person they sold/gave it to did not like it.
Then you are in the clear.
