Default Everything else category

When creating a listing for an item that doesn't have a UPC code you need to put it into the everything else category

How bad does that hurt viewings? If a person searches for an item that lands in your description it will show. But if they are searching in a specific category, it wont. Any thoughts on how folks usually use amazon search? Do they tend to start global and go from there?

I know my search habits always narrow down from wide open to specific. but I'm not the buyer

Is it paramount to get that item into a category and will being in everything else hurt?

Creating a UPC code is not cheap. But if its the only way to get the sales...

I know that when I search for an item, I search for the keyword and then narrow it down with the categories on the left. Unless something in "everything else" is at the top of the search results, I am not going to look at that category.

ya, I think you are right. Unless very top of search results it will go unnoticed a lot

Looks like UPC codes are not as high as I thought if I look around. At first glance I thought they were $90 each. But seems I can get them cheaper. So prob my best bet

I just found another one for you, this one is a little bit better, but charges 9.95 for 1, and is good for Amazon. You get UPC and EAN with every purchase.

I have found it is easier to use bar codes of items that Amazon won't have in their catalog. Cigarettes, milk, lottery scratch tickets and may other bar codes are not in Amazon's catalog.

The codes are only 10 bucks, so for the half dozen products I have to put up I'm just going to do that
