Default New uk amzon pro merchant account - what is EAN UPC?

Hi.

I upgraded my uk amzon to a pro merchant account so I can start listing my own products

On the listing page, it asks me for the EAN of my items.

My goods dont have any so I just put in 13 zeros

Is this wrong? Will they close me down?

Also, can I pretty much list anything I have lying around at home - magazines, coupons, plastic cups and silly other bits new/old etc. just like I do on ebay or is it different on amzon

Sorry for the basic questions - I thought I would ask here first as opposed to amzon help pages as I think people here are more experienced

Thanks

If you have new items that are not on Am az on, you will need to enter a legit UPC (There are some sites where you can buy a UPC for some bux - search the forum for some threads on this or google it).

Otherwise, you can list anything that is already registered on Am az on and is not restricted.

Wish I could say more but I have not created anything on Am az on - if you do, report back with your success and I will learn too =)

All the best.

I think I better close the listings until I wisen up a bit more about amzn.

I am happy with my understandings on eb as their site is quite easy to understand and their help pages are ok, but on amzn I am a proper newbie - I think I am used to eb to much!.

I think I need to do some more reasearch before I try to jump the gun.

To above, thanks, I have learnt something new.

Research is golden and yes, I would also say that just popping an EAN of ZEROES is likely to look very shady.

If you list in the everything else category, you don't need that info

Thanks for you time again.

I had a look but its not there - I take doggie for a walk now so maybe when I get back it might appear!!

No really. Maybe the uk site is different from the usa one

As you say, everything is in alphabetical order and I have checked all the sub catgories too.

Here is a screenshot of the listing page:
