Default Ebay Getting TOUGHER for BUYERS TOO!!

I tried to open 3 new accts today.
-- in each case, upon bidding, I was requested to place a cc on file.
--This has Never happened before.
-- The items were very small, one was a $9.95 watch
-- another was a $2.00 bid for a portfolio...
--Seems like they are tightening up all over the boards..
** The request for cc WAS NOT asked during registration, but later upon trying to place a bid...
(Of course, little did they know, I was Planning to give them the cc anyhow, later tonight... BUT< it wasnt for bidding )

I tried to register yesterday and they would not even let me register without a credit card. I thought it was strange too.

He is saying you can register, but you have to provide CC before placing bid. When you register they will also ask for CC right away if using public email address, like hotmail and yahoo etc.

It's strange because a few days ago I created a new eBay account, but they didn't ask me for a CC at all - not even to sell! More and more I'm starting to think this is strictly a numbers game with them.

The one I used for that account happened to be GMail. Not sure that has much to do with it, though.

On that one account, yes. But it hasn't been very long. Also this is a rare occurance.. normally they ask me for a CC before I sell anything at all.

It may just be a glitch. There is no reason for ebay to allow a small amount of ppl to sell without a cc.

Except for the very early days were they would give you 10 free listings before you paid, I have not come across an account in the last 8 years that was able to sell without some kind of payment source in place. Did you add bank account or link to paypal as payment? Maybe the automatically link your email address to paypal database and figure they can charge you that way.

Well I tried to add 3 accounts the night before last and ALL asked for a cc for creating registration. I have noticed that sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It could just be a random thing.

ebayhateluv or modee,
Do you have any idea why they are asking for cc upon registration.

It is not a random thing. It will ask you for a CC for registering any type of account even just a buyer account, based on your email address and ip address. I can still register accounts without CC, even can bid on few items without CC up to a certain dollar amount. Most times it will ask for CC, before placing bid on item over $50.

I remember when they sent out the notice that they were going to establish a "guest" buying program which would allow buyers not to have to register and that they could just purchase the item and pay with PayPal. I see that never became anything. They mentioned it back in Nov. I think. I think it does depend on IP and email. And there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Sherry:
I think in my case, its because of maybe a Female, age 23 registering, then 15 mins later a Male age 23 registering, then 15 mins after that a female age 33 registering??

For the record, my dog wanted to bid on a friend's item to get it near the reserve so she created an account tonight, through a proxy with a public email. The item in ebay motors was $20,000 and it wanted a CC. Went to bid on another item from the same seller for $2000 and sailed right through with no cc.
Good thing she didn't win because she is not old enough to drive :D
