Default When did ebay start to force us to use Paypal??

Today, I found out that I was not able to list anything without paypal.
NOT even with a merchant account.
This is the message I received.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We noticed that you chose to offer credit card as a payment option. To confirm that you can support this process, please fax a copy of your most recent merchant processing statement to (866) 309-6493.

Please include your eBay user ID, phone number and email address in the fax so that we can contact you.

While we confirm your merchant credit card account, you can continue listing items on eBay with PayPal as the payment method. PayPal is convenient to use and offers buyers and sellers protection against fraud, chargebacks, and theft of financial data.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems we have to accept paypal to sell. Great!
Paypal is so wonderful, now, they have to force people to use it.

If you go on their site they say since Jan 17th 08, Ive experienced this since Dec 07, and some say Nov 07.

It's been a very gradual process. Hard to say when exactly the first step took place..

HI- it was Nov. 20th--- "D-Day".. Accts created prior to this, do not need all this verification.
-- Open a ccnow acct or real merchant acct- fax them a copy + youre good to go..

That was the most auspicious date for sure. But it had been obvious for a while that eBay was really puffing up Paypal more and more and going out of their way to convince everyone to use it to the exclusion of other payment methods.

Default Would this work?

Set up both EB and PP accounts with a GC. Register the PP with EB and after everything is good to go, change your method of accepting payment before you sell. Sure, you can give them a Paypal addy, but if it is all ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and created for purposes of only trying appease an ebay requirement, what's the difference?

Lynn- You need a Merchant acct, or CCNOW.. We have a section on this-- Merchant acct info-main page, about 1/2 way down.. Many good posts from the Members.
Theres also Secret info in the Members only section..

What is the purpose of this??? You can't change your payment types any more than if you use a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ paypal addy. When you start selling you'll be expected to offer paypal.

Sure you can, when you list you either check the box by the PP logo or the one by Visa/MC.
Last time I listed all you had to do was offer buyers a "safe" method payment

I've never done this before. So when I sign up on ebay for a sellers account somewhere along the way I'll have the option of linking of creating a paypal account to go with it? After the accounts are linked I can go back into ebay and select merchant account to sell if I want? What if you already have an ebay sellers account? I don't see any option to link up with paypal.

Have one that was set up in Dec. Another one set up this week, but not used yet. Plan on putting on a few items today to try it.

If you haven't sold anything yet how can you claim you can sell without offering paypal as a payment option?
