Lightbulb When do you know its generic and OK to sell?

So i dont sell and branded or vero items. I dont think. All seem to be generic versions of more populat branded items that look way different. I have a few products I sell and have done my best to make sure they are generic and dont infringe on any rights holders.

A TON of the stuff we find on aliexpress seems to be knock offs. SO... when i find something that appears to be good and generic through and through and can make me money, I run Google searches and trademark/patent searches on Google to see if its a VERO type item at all. Sometimes I find it is sometimes I find it doesnt appear to be.

But im not a lawyer so how do I make sure that the items im purchasing and selling arent knock offs of anything? Is what im doing about all i can do short of getting a lawyer to look into each item?

Just trying to be on the up and up these days, ive had packages seized before and I want to be done with that crap. Its nauseating when it happens.

I guess what made me wonder was....... theres a certain type of pet comb that is a very common knock off. I purchased some only to find out they were knock offs of this item when they got seized. But then I was at Target and they sell items that look EXACTLY like them but with different colors and a different name in different packaging but the the design of the item is 99% the same. How are those not being seized? Is it just because its different packaging and a different name? NOW... you can buy ones from china that look exactly the same as the vero except for the packaging and name, so would those be ok then?
