Default How did you add a bank account to verify paypal?

Just wondering how anyone in the UK added a bank account to their paypal account.

I currently have an account that I've had for a fair few years, don't want to associate that account with ebay in case of it getting limited. So, I created a new account.

So far, I've verified phone number and credit card, all I need to do now is verify bank account. However, if I go to my local bank, I am only allowed to open up a bank in my real name (obviously). When adding a bank account, paypal requires it to be in the name associated to that account (otherwise a fee will be charged).

How did you get past this step?

Thanks in advance!

Here in the US Paypal does not have a way of checking the name on the account the way they can for a credit card. Therefore, here we supply them with an account number and they make 2 tiny deposits into it. You go into the bank and they can tell you the amount of those deposits and when they were made. You then provide that "secret" information to Paypal to prove that you have authority over that account and you have then added it.

I am going to try to do this with an account that had been previously reg'd with PP and then removed. After I do it I'll report back on whether or not it worked.

I know how the process works, I've done it before.
It's just now in bold letter it says the name of the account must match the name of the paypal account, so I'm guessing they now check.

Hmm..

They've always said that (the name must match the account), but they're lying. They just hope that people are gullible enough to believe when they hear that.

Are you sure? If this is the case, then there is no problem at all.

Everything is totally automated and paypal CANNOT check the name/address on of the bank account you submit

They DO however have the ability to check on name and address for NONE prepaid credit cards (ie MBNA/Barclaycard/Egg/CapitalOne etc) via AVS (address verification service) this is offered by the UK credit references agencies Equifax & Experian

I am running SEVERAL different UK PayPals ALL in different names and all on bank accounts all in my OWN (real) name

I have not had an issue with any of them

Paul, thanks a lot for that information.

So, say my paypal account is in the name of "sam smith". If I had a bank account myself under the name of "Joe bloggs", when I add a bank account in my paypal (although it says the names must match), if I say the name of the bank account is "Joe bloggs", where in fact it's "sam smith", it wouldn't matter at all?

And, they are unable to verify the details on my prepaid credit card?

You add you add the name of your bank account as SAM SMITH

they are unable to verify the details on my prepaid credit card

All eBay/PayPal is concerned about is the card is live active & valid

It does that by the attempting to charge the card in the background, which is why you always need to have £1 or more on the pre-paid card

The BIC code make up of the card which is the first 8 digits on the 16 digit number relate to issuing company, card type (visa or mc), and country of issue

''To find out anything other than AVS on a card, ebay has to call the credit card bank which they're too lazy to do. I think for banks they'd have to call the bank but the bank might be more secretive.''

................more verbal BS and heresay from someone stupider than George W Bush

ebay cannot and wont call a credit card company, the UK Data Protection Act apply ALL c/c comapnies are duely bound to by UK law to adhere to it

The same goes for banks

After adding a bank account to paypal UK a page shows up that they will send to the bank with the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ name and address written on it along with the legit a/c no., sort code and bank address to create a direct debit. IS THIS SAFE TO OK?

About the only time the account might come under scrutiny is if there was an
error with the actual account numerical information. "Numerical" not names.
Monies go into a numbered bank account, the name is coincidental. BTY I know
of an a/c that has an absurd name and has no troubles.

Just to confirm to you all, that the name does NOT matter. I've just confirmed a new account with a different name, and the deposits went in fine
