old thread i know....but as funny as this may seem, i am finally back on!
it took nearly a year of calling numerous people at ebay month after month and working my way up the ladder to finally get my voice heard.
I was seller suspended for having a linked account.
I lived with an ex-girlfriend that did not pay her ebay fees and let her credit cards expire before paying off the ebay debt. from that point on, she no longer used ebay/paypal and that situation made problems for my account since we shared the same ip and home address. ebay told me the two accounts were strongly linked and we were no longer allowed to sell anything.
my account is a legit account and i really wanted to save it. ebay makes it VERY difficult because they will not discuss ANY other account information but your own. they would only tell me who the other linked account was and didnt tell me why i was banned or in what ways it was linked,or even what it would take to get unbanned. i also believe they were testing me to see if i was lying and using two accounts. but i wasnt.
I argued with ebay for months and months and one day they transferred my call to a 'top associate' in a different department than i have been dealing with. I talked to this 'associate' and we discussed the linking of the accounts. I have read the
stealth guide and kept that in my head the whole time,but i never mentioned that i've known anything about ebay banning or restrictions.
He told me why the account was banned from selling and actually offered some help to getting unbanned. I spent about an hour or so on the phone with this guy telling him of how an innocent account such as mine could fall victim of ebay restrictions and bans. he told me he knows this happens alot but they are conserned with keeping the site safe for buyers.
So,I went with their terms and did everything they wanted me to do. I paid off my ex's debt,answered a bunch of questions,and logged back on and was selling within an hour after the phone call.
From what he told me,he was one of the people 'in charge' with these kinds of cases and makes the decisions to keep people banned/restricted or not.
He said my account was banned from automatic linking of another banned account.
Incase you are wondering,yes,they wanted money to reinstate my account because even though my account wasnt the problem account,there was no real proof it wasnt still linked. also,the questions they asked were mostly about the other account. they were seeing if we sold the same items,and we didnt sell the same things. but he told me if i ever sold the same items i would be banned again,mostly by an automatic process. he said they have a way to identify (categorize) sellers just by the items that they sell/buy. since i never sell/buy those kind of items i was clear.
he also said if the other user ever logs into the account and it happens to still have the same ip as me i will be banned. im sure that will never happen either!
I agreed to everything and all is good!
There were many more questions but that was about all i remember.
from my experience i learned this:
-EVERYTIME you call they get as much info as they can and it ALL IS LOGGED!
-make NO MISTAKES when calling them cause even though the questions go in circles,they are trying to pry out more info from you! if your story if slightly different each time,you could be dead in the water.
-HAVE ALOT of patience...the more calm and patient and nice you are,the better it all works in your advantage.dont act like you know anything about what they are doing,let them do it all for you!
-keep your own log of who you talked to,their names and times you talked and from what department it was. also very important,get a call reference number EVERY TIME you talk to someone! it shows you are serious and i think thats what really helped me.
