Default Share your finds- Flea market, yard sale, thrift store, auctions, estate sales

The intent of this thread is to allow us all to share with each other the knowledge we have in a certain area of expertise with our fellow members.

Since this is mainly a local thing and we wont be stepping on each others toes I fell it would be great for us to share what we find and a little about what it is and where you found it. ( not specific but in general - ex: I found this item at a yard sale )

I have learned a lot of things from members here in areas or categories I would have never even looked at.

I believe we can all benefit from sharing with each other without going into specific locations etc and help each other out.

This thread is NOT for negative postings, it is for upbeat positive postings that will help each other out by giving an idea for our fellow members what to look for the next time they are out and about. It is NOT about sharing your negative experiences or your purchases that did not go so well.

Example of a posting in this thread would be:

Yesterday I found-

2 Harley Davidson childs leather jackets at a local thrift store for 9.99 each. Both were like new with no issues at all. Crazy profit!

I also found-

1950-60's picnic basket with all the original contents including a thermos brand cooler.

2 Fenton Glass Murrhina Vases Splattered colors and hard to find pieces.

I found some other things but will add them later since this is the first post in the thread.

Lets share our knowledge and help each other learn without stepping on each others toes.

Go for it! Your turn.

Did you READ the OP?

It's to have a chat not to tell a poster what they should or should not do.

If the OP is comfortable talking of finds then live with it.

As you were.

To make it easy on those who do not understand.

I do not list the items I currently find right away.

With 2,350 Harley jackets listed I think it would be very hard to find that one in the batch.

Most of us know to be broad about items and not give away specific details.

Like someone in the other thread said they found Hard drives and re sell them. No way in heck could you track them down with a million hard drives listed.

If you do not want to share and cannot hide the specifics then that is ok.

My post was from a personal perspective.

Not in any way aimed at telling the OP what they can or cannot do.

threads like these inspire me to go out and look at thrift stores for unique items, which is what the OP said. no one asked you to list your inventory, your reply is worthless and truly unnecessary.

in the spirit of the OP, listing what you find may or may not impact your ability to sell said item. if i go out and find a crystal chandelier and post about it on here, the likelyhood of someone else on here selling crystal chandeliers is extremely slim.

the fact that @sandy is even willing to share her knowledge speaks to her character.

i highly doubt that a yard sale in Missoula, MT, is going to have the same items at a yard sale in Hoboken, NJ.

again, this thread helps out guys like me who wouldnt even have a clue as to what to look for at a thrift store and are passing items by on a regular basis. the OP found some kids harley jackets near her. my guess is that I wont find the exact same harley jacket in the exact same size and condition. therefor I am not competition to her.

Exactly!!

Just to be clear so everyone protect themselves ( yes I thought of that )
we need to be vague in describing what you found.

For me I wont post anything to the exact info so someone can track me down as if like the case of the Harley Jackets I wont be listing them today and found more then 2000 like jackets on ebay.

Sean I have passed by tons of stuff such as electronics and with the other thread I now look at things like this.

In the last two days I have found tons of great items at local thrift stores and one huge flea market.

The items are there to be had.

I see nothing wrong with sharing some info to help each other out as long as we ALL understand not to post anything that would give your user name away.

Thanks Sean!

Yeah reading this and the other thread made me get my lazy ass up and go to the swap meet with my dad at 6 in the morning. He always goes to add to his camera collection. I always thought it would be a good idea to go and pick up some things to resell, but after today it's not as easy as it seems.

You have to know what to look for which is the hard part. I was walking around with my iphone out all day looking like a jackass for those hidden gems but just didn't know what to look for. I did end up finding something really sweet though, a Linksys WRT300N wireless router looked nearly brand new or barely used. Price was $20 got it for $15, which is a sweet deal even without the $5 discount.

I also came upon a vintage 1960s GI Joe asking price was $35, I looked on ebay and some were selling for upwards $300. Wish I knew more about vintage GI Joes and see if it would have been worth to buy...

And damn these swap meets man, the vendors here are blatantly selling a truckload of ⊗⊗⊗⊗ ****. I thought these swap meets were on watch but damn. ⊗⊗⊗⊗ DVDs, cologne, games, clothes, jerseys, hats, shoes, you name it. Makes me think about setting up shop for a day and see how things go, I can get all the stuff they have selling there easily...

Today I did not have much time but stopped by a Goodwill and found an Imperial Glass Carnival Punch Bowl set.

For those who do not know Imperial Glass it is a well sought after carnival and other glass maker from early 1900s through 1980's and the older pieces bring decent money.

Marking will be IG ( G will be over the I )

terapeak is ok, but i find that using the "completed listings" search works a heck of a lot better. you get more specific results

HELP TECHIES

I found a Toshiba netbook at a local thrift store for 29.99.

Very good condition.

Is loaded up some decent software but also has tons of personal stuff, pictures, documents etc. ( why would someone donate without removing in beyond me )

My question is this, how do I wipe off everything except for the software? With tons of stuff it would take me a long time to go through all of these. And netbook does not allow me to switch users easily and there are several users with saved docs etc.

Any simple way?

Thanks

Thanks. I just do not want to re sell it with someones personal info on it so I wanted to clean it off to keep their info private.

I have an external disk drive I can use if that helps.
