Exclamation Ally alert!!!!

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

Just received call from Ally (Canada). They did not like the fact that they received 2 small deposits from PayPal under a different name. Thank god I didn't transfer any money from PayPal to Ally or else they might have kept it and would not have released it. At first agent told me that my account was under restriction. Then she put me on hold for a few minutes and when she came back she said that now my account it back in order but link between PayPal and Ally was removed and that I cannot receive money under different name from PayPal.

Conclusion: DO NOT USE ALLY! In fact I wouldn't use Ally for ANYTHING. They don't seem to be trustworthy. They aren't even a real bank anyways.

Thank you! I am glad I was able to contribute something of value on this forum. I hope that those like yourself and others who have an ally account might be able to pull their funds from Ally immediately and close their accounts.

You know what I don't think it's only in Canada. I think there was one member from USA who complained because they held his money. I just spoke with someone who said that Bank of America also once held his money and never gave it back.

I think his name is Gman...something. They gave him trouble with Ally in the US. So it seems to be Ally all together. I guess they are changing their rules. Maybe instead of small deposits, do instant verify.

Seems like maybe it depends on the particular rep or agent.

I once had the problem with BOA and they are considered pretty safe still.

50-50 at the moment.

Canadian users have troubles.
US users have troubles.

Considering the intergrity of a paypal account could be damaged by using that bank not unreasonable to let users know.

I really cannot see how a bank can just take the money like that..... can anyone link a law or something that shows this being legal on the banks side?

Did this actually affect your paypal account? Or now are you just needing to add a different bank account? If paypal is not aware then accounts are rescue-able by just adding a different one yes?.

I have several Ally banks, at least couple hundred a week. No issue's then again I do call them and make sure they add the name to the account in which payments will be coming in from.

Just as a follow-up... I contacted Ally Bank and tried the same. They cannot do it over the phone. Only by Fax or Snail Mail.

They require

-The requested change
-Customer Name(Mine)
-Social Security of Primary Account holder (mine)
-Date of birth (mine)
-Name to add
-Social Security of joint holder
-DOB of joint holder
-Who will be primary
-Signature of Both parties

I called local bank and was no different. This would have been a great alternative to a DBA. However I think its very YMMV

Thanks anyhoot!

That's a lot of info lol maybe I am just a lucky guy.

All I did was call up to let them know I have payments from eBay sales coming in from Paypal in different names because my friend allows me to use his account and that was it. Same with US Bank

The key word I got from your post was changed? you asked to add a name to a pre existing Ally account?. I set up my account prior to asking if I could get payments in from with another name as of know I am running a total of 6 accounts 3 of those are in my name, and the other 3 in my girlfriends name.

These accounts are used slowly as I only run a 1g a month for 90 days till I build up a history and go full on merchant account.
