Default Getting refunded to a different visa (debit) card?

So the story is I can't find my visa debit card and I think I lost it.
I want to cancel it right now, but I bought an item from a seller on ebay who tells me that it is now out of stock and will give me a refund now or I can wait until they have it back in stock.

I don't want to wait and would rather have my refund now, but I'm sure that the last time I got a refund it went directly back to my bank account through paypal and my visa debit.

So if I were to cancel the card and get a new one with a new number, what would happen if the seller refunds me?

Should I remove the current card details from paypal after I cancel it?

Based on your country flag this happens

Seller refunds to your paypal account.

You transfer from that paypal to your bank account. Note I said bank account.

paypal NZ has no withdrawal to debit/credit card.

Once the funds are in your bank account, you can withdraw as you want.

If your card is missing order a new one now.
When you receive it it can be added to paypal.
You will be able to leave the old card number on file but make the new number your primary one,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what you mean?

I finally found the transaction back from last year where I received a refund, and the transaction details show "Credit to Credit Card" at the very last step.
So it automatically refunded the money to my bank account.

I'm thinking that if I cancel my card now, the card number (which is my card on paypal) will become invalid.
So if the guy refunds me after I cancel my card, will the money just get transferred to a non-existent card?
And then I will just lose the money?

The refund goes to your paypal
YOU do the transfer to your bank account.

paypal does not transfer to a debit card.

The account holder (you) does that when the funds clear.

Read my other post regarding adding the card to paypal :D

Thanks for your help, but I'm still not quite getting you.

I don't think I've ever transferred any money from my paypal account to my bank because I've never had to..

The transaction where I got refunded last year shows:
Refund
Currency Conversion
Currency Conversion
Credit to Credit Card

So the money went directly to my credit card/debit card (and thus my bank account) when I got refunded.
It was never in my paypal balance I'm pretty sure.

Or are you saying that if I remove the card from paypal or if its invalid the money will go to my paypal account instead, and then I can move it to my bank account when I get my new card? :D

GB said it like 3 times. when you are refunded by the seller, the money goes into your paypal account and then you decide how to get it from there. its not like a retailer where you buy something and return it they put the money back on your card or cash or however you paid.

with paypal, paypal "becomes" the credit card. think of it like this: the money from credit card gets transferred to paypal, and then gets sent to the seller. so when the money comes back, it will sit in your paypal balance. it would be like transferring money from a savings account to a checking account and then using your debit card for an item. if you return the item, the money doesnt go back to the savings account, it goes into your checking account.

paypal will keep that money in there forever if you let them. they DONT want you to withdraw money, they want to keep it for themselves.

When I pay by debit card, the money refunded by the seller does not go to my paypal account, it goes THROUGH paypal back into the card. Automatically.

Quote:
Once the refund is completed the money is credited back in the following ways, depending on where the money came from:

A) Card - refund is sent to the card that day. It is then up to your bank to process the funds back to the appropriate account. Usually this takes anywhere from 24 hours to 5 working days.
B) Bank - refund is credited to your PayPal balance. If you want to put it back in your bank account you can click on 'withdraw'
C) PayPal Balance - refund is credited back to your PayPal balance

If a payment is sent as a mixture of Card and PayPal Balance then the appropriate funds will be credited back to the card and the rest to the balance.
What I was wanting to know was whether I could make the refund go to my paypal balance rather than back to my card.

It's a visa debit.
Bank in NZ.
I think my paypal account should be an NZ account too.
